La libreria fornisce strumenti come l'output grafico 2D e 3D accelerato dall'hardware, gestione degli input, riproduzione audio, output 3D tramite OpenGL\/OpenGL ES e molte altre operazioni correlate. La libreria \u00e8 scritta in C e distribuita sotto licenza zlib. Per utilizzare le funzionalit\u00e0 di SDL in progetti in vari linguaggi di programmazione sono forniti binding.<\/p>\n<p>Nel nuovo rilascio:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"l\"> \u00c8 stato rimosso il driver per l'uso con il server di visualizzazione Mir a favore del driver per il funzionamento attraverso Wayland;\n<li class=\"l\"> Le macro SDL_RW* sono state convertite in un insieme separato di funzioni;\n<li class=\"l\"> Aggiunte le funzioni SDL_SIMDGetAlignment(), SDL_SIMDAlloc() e SDL_SIMDFree() per l'allocazione di memoria per operazioni SIMD;\n<li class=\"l\"> Aggiunte le funzioni SDL_RenderDrawPointF(), SDL_RenderDrawPointsF(), SDL_RenderDrawLineF(), SDL_RenderDrawLinesF(), SDL_RenderDrawRectF(), SDL_RenderDrawRectsF(), SDL_RenderFillRectF(), SDL_RenderFillRectsF(), SDL_RenderCopyF() e SDL_RenderCopyExF() per utilizzare calcoli in virgola mobile nell'API di rendering di SDL;\n<li class=\"l\"> Aggiunta la funzione SDL_GetTouchDeviceType() per determinare il tipo di dispositivo touch (touchpad o schermo touch con coordinate relative o assolute);\n<li class=\"l\"> L'API di rendering SDL \u00e8 ora impostata di default per utilizzare il rendering in modalit\u00e0 batch, consentendo prestazioni superiori. \u00c8 stata aggiunta un'opzione SDL_HINT_RENDER_BATCHING per gestire l'applicazione della modalit\u00e0 batch;\n<li class=\"l\"> Per forzare l'esecuzione dei comandi batch in coda, \u00e8 stata aggiunta la chiamata SDL_RenderFlush(), che pu\u00f2 risultare utile quando si combinano il rendering tramite SDL e il rendering diretto;\n<li class=\"l\">  \u00c8 stata aggiunta l'opzione SDL_HINT_EVENT_LOGGING per abilitare il logging degli eventi SDL a scopo di debug;\n<li class=\"l\">  \u00c8 stata aggiunta l'opzione gestire la sintesi degli eventi tattili in base agli eventi del mouse;\n<li class=\"l\"> \u00c8 stato migliorato il trattamento dei file WAVE e BMP non correttamente formattati al fine di bloccare
