Questo \u00e8 uno standard IETF (<noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/tools.ietf.org\/html\/rfc4880\">RFC 4880<\/a><\/noindex>), utilizzato per crittografare le email e altri messaggi. La rete SKS \u00e8 stata creata trent'anni fa per la diffusione di certificati pubblici. Strumenti come <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/ru.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/GnuPG\">GnuPG<\/a><\/noindex> si connettono a essa per crittografare dati e creare firme digitali.<\/p>\n<p>Gli hacker hanno compromesso i certificati di due manutentori del progetto GnuPG \u2014 Robert Hansen e Daniel Gillmor. Il caricamento di un certificato danneggiato dal server provoca un malfunzionamento di GnuPG \u2014 il sistema si blocca semplicemente. Ci sono motivi per credere che i malintenzionati non si fermeranno qui e che il numero di certificati compromessi aumenter\u00e0. Al momento, l'entit\u00e0 del problema rimane sconosciuta.<\/p>\n<h2>Il succo dell'attacco<\/h2>\n<p>\nGli hacker hanno sfruttato una vulnerabilit\u00e0 nel protocollo OpenPGP. Questa \u00e8 conosciuta dalla comunit\u00e0 da diversi decenni. Anche su GitHub <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/micahflee\/trollwot\">si possono trovare<\/a><\/noindex> exploit corrispondenti. Tuttavia, non esiste un limite massimo al numero di firme. Qui si presenta un problema: la rete SKS consente di ospitare fino a 150.000 firme su un singolo certificato, ma GnuPG non supporta tale quantit\u00e0. Pertanto, durante il caricamento del certificato, GnuPG (come, d'altronde, altre implementazioni di OpenPGP) si blocca.<\/p>\n<p>Uno degli utenti <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/buttondown.email\/cryptography-dispatches\/archive\/cryptography-dispatches-hello-world-and-openpgp\/\">ha condotto un esperimento<\/a><\/noindex> \u2014 l'importazione del certificato ha richiesto circa 10 minuti. Questo \u00e8 fatto per poter tracciare la catena di tutte le azioni con i certificati e prevenire la loro sostituzione. Pertanto, non \u00e8 possibile eliminare gli elementi compromessi.<\/p>\n<p>In sostanza, la rete SKS rappresenta un grande \"server di file\", dove chiunque pu\u00f2 registrare dati. Per illustrare il problema, lo scorso anno un residente di GitHub <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/yakamok\/keyserver-fs\">ha creato un file system<\/a><\/noindex>, che memorizza documenti nella rete dei server delle chiavi crittografiche.<\/p>\n<h2>Perch\u00e9 la vulnerabilit\u00e0 non \u00e8 stata chiusa<\/h2>\n<p>\nNon c'era motivo per chiudere la vulnerabilit\u00e0. In precedenza, non era stata utilizzata per attacchi informatici. Sebbene la comunit\u00e0 IT <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/news.ycombinator.com\/item?id=20315633\">chiedesse da tempo<\/a><\/noindex> agli sviluppatori di SKS e OpenPGP di prestare attenzione al problema.<\/p>\n<p>A onor del vero, va notato che a giugno hanno comunque <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/keys.openpgp.org\/about\/news#2019-06-12-launch\">lanciato<\/a><\/noindex> un server di chiavi sperimentale <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/keys.openpgp.org\/about\/news\">keys.openpgp.org<\/a><\/noindex>. In esso \u00e8 stata implementata una protezione contro tipi di attacchi simili. Tuttavia, il suo database viene riempito da zero e il server non fa parte di SKS. La rete di server key \u00e8 stata originariamente scritta come proof of concept per proteggere la tesi di dottorato di Yaron Minsky. Inoltre, \u00e8 stato scelto un linguaggio piuttosto specifico, OCaml. <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/gist.github.com\/rjhansen\/67ab921ffb4084c865b3618d6955275f\">le parole<\/a><\/noindex> Secondo il manutentore Robert Hansen, comprendere il codice \u00e8 difficile, quindi vengono apportate solo piccole correzioni. Per modificare l'architettura SKS, sar\u00e0 necessario riscriverla da zero.<\/p>\n<p>In ogni caso, in GnuPG non si fidano che la rete possa mai essere corretta. In un post su GitHub, gli sviluppatori hanno persino scritto che non raccomandano di lavorare con SKS Keyserver. Questa \u00e8 in effetti una delle principali ragioni per cui hanno avviato la transizione al nuovo servizio keys.openpgp.org.
