Avendo la possibilit\u00e0 di bloccare la trasmissione diretta dei pacchetti durante il processo di negoziazione della connessione tra dispositivi Bluetooth, l'attaccante pu\u00f2 ottenere chiavi con solo 1 byte di entropia per la sessione, permettendo l'applicazione del metodo di brute-force per determinare la chiave di crittografia. <\/p>\n<p>Il problema \u00e8 causato da vulnerabilit\u00e0 (CVE-2019-9506) nella specifica Bluetooth BR\/EDR Core 5.1 e versioni precedenti, che consentono l'uso di chiavi di crittografia troppo corte e non impediscono l'interferenza dell'attaccante durante la fase di negoziazione della connessione per ritornare a simili chiavi inaffidabili (\u00e8 possibile la sostituzione dei pacchetti da parte di un attaccante non autenticato). L'attacco pu\u00f2 essere effettuato al momento della negoziazione della connessione tra dispositivi (sessioni gi\u00e0 stabilite non possono essere attaccate) ed \u00e8 efficace solo per connessioni nei modi BR\/EDR (Bluetooth Basic Rate\/Enhanced Data Rate), se entrambi i dispositivi sono vulnerabili. In caso di un successo nel recupero della chiave, l'aggressore pu\u00f2 decifrare i dati trasmessi e sostituire nel traffico un testo cifrato a sua scelta, senza che la vittima se ne accorga.<\/p>\n<p>Quando viene stabilita una connessione tra due controller Bluetooth A e B, il controller A, dopo l'autenticazione tramite la chiave di collegamento (link key), pu\u00f2 proporre di utilizzare come chiave di crittografia (encryption key) 16 byte di entropia, e il controller B pu\u00f2 accettare questo valore o indicare un valore inferiore, nel caso in cui non sia in grado di generare una chiave della dimensione proposta. In risposta, il controller A pu\u00f2 accettare la proposta e attivare il canale di comunicazione crittografato. A questo punto della negoziazione dei parametri non viene applicata la crittografia, quindi l'attaccante ha la possibilit\u00e0 di insinuarsi nell scambio dati tra i controller e sostituire il pacchetto con la dimensione proposta di entropia. Poich\u00e9 la dimensione della chiave consentita varia da 1 a 16 byte, il secondo controller accetter\u00e0 questo valore e invier\u00e0 la sua conferma indicando una dimensione simile.<\/p>\n<p><center><noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usenix.org\/system\/files\/sec19-antonioli.pdf\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Attacco KNOB, che consente di intercettare il traffico Bluetooth crittografato\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/00852a72cea4b661260af415244a748b.png\" style=\"display:block;margin: 0 auto;\" \/><\/a><\/noindex><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Per riprodurre la vulnerabilit\u00e0 in condizioni di laboratorio (l'attivit\u00e0 dell'aggressore \u00e8 stata emulata su uno dei dispositivi) \u00e8 stato proposto<br \/>\n<noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/francozappa\/knob\/tree\/master\/poc-internalblue\">un prototipo di strumento<\/a><\/noindex> per effettuare l'attacco.<br \/>\nPer effettuare un attacco reale, l'attaccante deve trovarsi nella zona di ricezione dei dispositivi bersaglio e avere la possibilit\u00e0 di bloccare temporaneamente il segnale di ciascun dispositivo, il che si propone di realizzare attraverso la manipolazione del segnale o il jamming reattivo. <\/p>\n<p>L'organizzazione Bluetooth SIG, responsabile dello sviluppo degli standard Bluetooth, <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bluetooth.com\/security\/statement-key-negotiation-of-bluetooth\/\">ha pubblicato<\/a><\/noindex>  ha corretto la specifica con il numero 11838, in cui vengono proposte misure da implementare dai produttori per bloccare la vulnerabilit\u00e0 (la dimensione minima della chiave di crittografia \u00e8 stata aumentata da 1 a 7). Il problema <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.kb.cert.org\/vuls\/id\/918987\/\">si manifesta<\/a><\/noindex> \u00e8  <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.icasi.org\/br-edr-encryption-key-bluetooth-vulnerability\/\">tutti<\/a><\/noindex> con i relativi stack Bluetooth e i firmware dei chip Bluetooth, compresi i prodotti <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/software.intel.com\/security-software-guidance\/insights\/more-information-exploiting-low-entropy-encryption-key-negotiation-bluetooth-bredr\">Intel<\/a><\/noindex>, Broadcom, <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/support.lenovo.com\/us\/en\/product_security\/LEN-27173\">Lenovo<\/a><\/noindex>, <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/kb\/HT201222\">Apple<\/a><\/noindex>, <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/portal.msrc.microsoft.com\/en-US\/security-guidance\/advisory\/CVE-2019-9506\">Microsoft<\/a><\/noindex>, Qualcomm, Linux, <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/source.android.com\/security\/bulletin\/2019-08-01\">Android<\/a><\/noindex>, <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/support.blackberry.com\/kb\/articleDetail?articleNumber=000057251\">Blackberry<\/a><\/noindex> e <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/tools.cisco.com\/security\/center\/content\/CiscoSecurityAdvisory\/cisco-sa-20190813-bluetooth\">Cisco<\/a><\/noindex> (di 14 chip testati, tutti si sono rivelati vulnerabili). Nel stack Bluetooth del kernel Linux  <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/git.kernel.org\/pub\/scm\/linux\/kernel\/git\/bluetooth\/bluetooth.git\/commit\/?id=58a96fc35375ab87db7c5b69336f5befde1b548f\">\u00e8 stata apportata<\/a><\/noindex> \u00e8 presente
