Mastodon appartiene alla categoria delle reti federate, e per creare una struttura di relazioni unificate vengono utilizzati un insieme di protocolli ActivityPub<\/a><\/noindex>. <\/p>\n

Il codice della parte server del progetto \u00e8 scritto in Ruby utilizzando Ruby on Rails, mentre l'interfaccia client \u00e8 realizzata in JavaScript con l'uso delle librerie React.js e Redux. I codici sorgente sono distribuiti<\/a><\/noindex> sono disponibili con licenza AGPLv3. \u00c8 anche presente un frontend statico per la pubblicazione di risorse pubblicamente accessibili, come profili e stati.
