VeraCrypt si distingue per la sostituzione dell'algoritmo RIPEMD-160 utilizzato in TrueCrypt con SHA-512 e SHA-256, l'aumento del numero di iterazioni di hashing, la semplificazione del processo di compilazione per Linux e macOS, e l'eliminazione <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/veracrypt.codeplex.com\/discussions\/569777#PostContent_1313325\">di problemi<\/a><\/noindex>, emerse durante <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.opennet.ru\/opennews\/art.shtml?num=39573\">l'audit<\/a><\/noindex> del codice sorgente di TrueCrypt. Inoltre, VeraCrypt offre una modalit\u00e0 di compatibilit\u00e0 con le partizioni TrueCrypt e include strumenti per convertire le partizioni TrueCrypt nel formato VeraCrypt. Il codice sviluppato dal progetto VeraCrypt <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.veracrypt.fr\/code\/\">distribuito<\/a><\/noindex> \u00e8 sotto licenza Apache 2.0, e i prestiti da TrueCrypt <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.veracrypt.fr\/code\/VeraCrypt\/commit\/src\/Crypto?id=041024fbb96c4b56a948e26fe75d3115e13edf31\">continuano<\/a><\/noindex> ad essere forniti sotto la licenza di TrueCrypt 3.0.<\/p>\n<p>Nel nuovo rilascio:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"l\"> Per le partizioni non sistemiche, la lunghezza massima delle password \u00e8 aumentata a 128 caratteri in codifica UTF-8. Per garantire la compatibilit\u00e0 con i sistemi pi\u00f9 vecchi, \u00e8 stata aggiunta un'opzione per limitare la lunghezza massima della password a 64 caratteri;\n<li class=\"l\"> Come alternativa alle istruzioni CPU RDRAND, \u00e8 stata aggiunta la supporto della libreria <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.chronox.de\/jent.html\">Jitterentropy<\/a><\/noindex>, che utilizza per la generazione hardware di numeri casuali il jitter, basato sull'analisi delle fluttuazioni del tempo di riesecuzione di un determinato insieme di istruzioni sulla CPU, un fenomeno influenzato da svariati fattori interni e irripetibile senza un controllo fisico sulla CPU;\n<li class=\"l\"> \u00c8 stata ottimizzata la performance della modalit\u00e0 XTS su sistemi a 64 bit con supporto per le istruzioni SSE2. Le ottimizzazioni hanno permesso in media di aumentare le performance del 10%;\n<li class=\"l\"> \u00c8 stato aggiunto un codice per rilevare la presenza nel CPU del supporto per le istruzioni RDRAND\/RDSEED e per i processori Hygon. Risolti problemi di rilevamento del supporto AVX2\/BMI2;\n<li class=\"l\"> Per Linux nel CLI \u00e8 stata aggiunta l'opzione &#171;&#8212;import-token-keyfiles&#187;, compatibile con la modalit\u00e0 non interattiva;\n<li class=\"l\"> Per Linux e macOS \u00e8 stata aggiunta una verifica dello spazio disponibile nel filesystem per la creazione del contenitore di file. \u00c8 previsto un flag &#171;&#8212;no-size-check&#187; per disabilitare la verifica;\n<li class=\"l\"> Per Windows \u00e8 stata implementata la modalit\u00e0 di memorizzazione di chiavi e password in memoria in forma crittografata, utilizzando l'algoritmo ChaCha12, l'hash t1ha e un CSPRNG basato su ChaCha20. Di default, questa modalit\u00e0 \u00e8 disattivata poich\u00e9 comporta un aumento dei costi operativi di circa il 10% e non consente di mettere il sistema in modalit\u00e0 sospensione. Per Windows \u00e8 stata inoltre aggiunta una protezione contro alcuni attacchi di estrazione dei dati dalla memoria, basata sull'implementazione nel <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/keepassxreboot\/keepassxc\">KeePassXC<\/a><\/noindex> metodo di limitazione dell'accesso alla memoria per gli utenti privi di diritti di amministratore. \u00c8 stata aggiunta la cancellazione delle chiavi prima della chiusura, prima del riavvio o (opzionalmente) al collegamento di un nuovo dispositivo.
