Sviluppatori del client di posta Thunderbird hanno comunicato<\/a><\/noindex> sull'intenzione di includere nella versione Thunderbird 78, prevista per l'estate del prossimo anno, il supporto integrato<\/a><\/noindex> per la crittografia della corrispondenza e la firma dei messaggi con una firma digitale basata su chiavi pubbliche OpenPGP. <\/p>\n

In precedenza, tale funzionalit\u00e0 era fornita da un componente aggiuntivo Enigmail<\/a><\/noindex>, il supporto per il quale continuer\u00e0 fino alla fine della fase di supporto della versione Thunderbird 68 (nelle versioni successive a Thunderbird 68, sar\u00e0 rimossa la possibilit\u00e0 di installare Enigmail). L'implementazione integrata \u00e8 un nuovo sviluppo preparato con la partecipazione dell'autore di Enigmail. La principale differenza sar\u00e0 l'uso di una delle librerie che forniscono funzionalit\u00e0 OpenPGP, invece di chiamare l'utilit\u00e0 esterna GnuPG, nonch\u00e9 l'utilizzo di un proprio archivio di chiavi, non compatibile con il formato dei file delle chiavi GnuPG e utilizzante per la protezione una password principale, la stessa usata per proteggere gli account e le chiavi S\/MIME.<\/p>\n

Il processo di trasferimento delle chiavi e delle impostazioni dopo la migrazione da Enigmail alla versione integrata di OpenPGP sar\u00e0 automatizzato. Il supporto integrato per S\/MIME in Thunderbird rimarr\u00e0 invariato. La decisione riguardo alla possibilit\u00e0 di confermare l'appartenenza delle chiavi attraverso il meccanismo Web of Trust<\/a><\/noindex> (WoT) non \u00e8 ancora stata presa.<\/p>\n
