Gli sviluppatori del client di posta Thunderbird hanno comunicato<\/a><\/noindex> hanno annunciato l'intenzione di aggiungere nella versione Thunderbird 78, attesa per l'estate del prossimo anno, il supporto integrato<\/a><\/noindex> per la crittografia delle comunicazioni e la verifica delle email con firme digitali basate su chiavi pubbliche OpenPGP. <\/p>\n

In precedenza, tale funzionalit\u00e0 era garantita da un componente aggiuntivo Enigmail<\/a><\/noindex>, il cui supporto continuer\u00e0 fino alla scadenza della fase di supporto della versione Thunderbird 68 (nelle versioni successive a Thunderbird 68 la possibilit\u00e0 di installare Enigmail sar\u00e0 rimossa). L'implementazione integrata \u00e8 uno sviluppo nuovo, preparato con la partecipazione dell'autore di Enigmail. La principale differenza sar\u00e0 l'uso di una delle librerie che forniscono la funzionalit\u00e0 OpenPGP, invece della chiamata a un utility esterna GnuPG, nonch\u00e9 l'impiego di un proprio archivio di chiavi, non compatibile con il formato dei file di chiavi GnuPG e che utilizza per la protezione una password master identica a quella utilizzata per proteggere gli account e le chiavi S\/MIME.<\/p>\n

Il processo di migrazione delle chiavi e delle impostazioni dopo il passaggio da Enigmail all'implementazione integrata di OpenPGP sar\u00e0 automatizzato. Il supporto integrato per S\/MIME precedentemente disponibile in Thunderbird rimarr\u00e0 invariato. Non \u00e8 ancora stata presa una decisione riguardo alla possibilit\u00e0 di confermare l'appartenenza delle chiavi tramite il meccanismo Web of Trust<\/a><\/noindex> (WoT).<\/p>\n
