Poich\u00e9 le password sono state hashed utilizzando il metodo DES, che per la tecnologia informatica moderna non rappresenta un problema per il recupero, gli appassionati hanno tentato<\/a><\/noindex> di recuperare le password utilizzate dai fondatori di Unix.<\/p>\n

Le password quasi di tutti i fondatori di Unix sono state recuperate<\/a><\/noindex> quasi subito. Ad esempio, la password di Brian Kernighan era una combinazione facilmente digitabile \"\\.,\\.,,\"; la password di Dennis Ritchie era \"dmac\"; quella di Kirk McKusick era \"foobar\"; e quella di Steven Bourne era \"bourne\". <\/p>\n

L'eccezione \u00e8 stata la password di Ken Thompson. Nel 2014, dopo diversi giorni di calcoli, la password \u00e8 rimasta non recuperata.
