Secondo i sostenitori dell'iniziativa, l'utente deve avere la possibilit\u00e0 di controllare completamente i propri dispositivi, dalle automobili e dai dispositivi medici ai telefoni e ai computer. <\/p>\n<p>Quest'anno, gli organizzatori dell'evento cercano di attirare l'attenzione del pubblico sui problemi legati all'uso del DRM nei manuali e corsi di studio elettronici. Acquistando manuali elettronici, gli studenti si trovano ad affrontare delle restrizioni che non permettono di avere accesso completo ai materiali del corso, che richiedono una connessione Internet permanente per l'autenticazione, limitano il numero di pagine visualizzabili per volta e raccolgono silenziosamente dati di telemetria sull'attivit\u00e0 durante il corso. <\/p>\n<p>La giornata contro il DRM \u00e8 coordinata sul sito <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.defectivebydesign.org\">Defective by Design<\/a><\/noindex>, in cui sono raccolti anche esempi dell'impatto negativo del DRM in vari settori. Ad esempio, si menziona il caso del 2009 in cui migliaia di copie del libro di George Orwell \"1984\" furono rimosse dai dispositivi Kindle, a seguito di un'iniziativa di Amazon. La possibilit\u00e0 di cancellare in remoto i libri dai dispositivi degli utenti, concessa alle corporazioni, \u00e8 stata percepita dai critici del DRM come un'analogia digitale della massiccia
