Il hypervisor supporta il funzionamento su sistemi x86_64 con estensioni VMX+EPT o SVM+NPT (AMD-V), cos\u00ec come su processori ARMv7 e ARMv8\/ARM64 con estensioni per la virtualizzazione. Separatamente <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/siemens\/jailhouse-images\">\u00e8 in fase di sviluppo<\/a><\/noindex> generatore di immagini per il hypervisor Jailhouse, creato sulla base di pacchetti Debian per i dispositivi supportati. Il codice del progetto <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/siemens\/jailhouse\">\u00e8 distribuito<\/a><\/noindex>  \u00e8 sotto licenza GPLv2. <\/p>\n<p>Il hypervisor \u00e8 implementato come un modulo per il kernel Linux e fornisce virtualizzazione a livello di kernel. I componenti per i sistemi guest sono gi\u00e0 inclusi nel kernel principale di Linux. Per gestire l'isolamento vengono utilizzati i meccanismi hardware di virtualizzazione forniti dai CPU moderni. Le caratteristiche distintive di Jailhouse sono una realizzazione leggera e un orientamento verso il vincolo delle macchine virtuali a CPU fisse, aree di RAM e dispositivi hardware. Questo approccio consente di garantire su un server multi-processore fisico il funzionamento di pi\u00f9 ambienti virtuali indipendenti, ognuno dei quali \u00e8 vincolato al proprio core di processore. <\/p>\n<p>Con un legame rigido con la CPU, le spese operative del hypervisor vengono ridotte al minimo e la sua implementazione diventa notevolmente pi\u00f9 semplice, poich\u00e9 non \u00e8 necessario eseguire un complesso pianificatore di distribuzione delle risorse \u2014 l'assegnazione di un singolo core CPU consente di garantire che non vengano eseguite altre attivit\u00e0 su quella CPU. Un vantaggio di questo approccio \u00e8 la possibilit\u00e0 di garantire accesso alle risorse e prestazioni prevedibili, rendendo Jailhouse una soluzione adatta per la creazione di compiti eseguiti in tempo reale. Uno svantaggio \u00e8 la scalabilit\u00e0 limitata, che \u00e8 vincolata al numero di core CPU.<\/p>\n<p>Nella terminologia di Jailhouse, gli ambienti virtuali sono chiamati \u00abcelle\u00bb (cell, nel contesto di jailhouse). All'interno della cella, il sistema appare come un server a singolo processore, mostrando prestazioni <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/file\/d\/0B6HTUUWSPdd-Zl93MVhlMnRJRjg\/edit\">simili<\/a><\/noindex> alle prestazioni di un core CPU dedicato. All'interno della cella pu\u00f2 essere eseguito un ambiente di qualsiasi sistema operativo, nonch\u00e9 ambienti ridotti per eseguire un'unica applicazione o applicazioni appositamente preparate, destinate a risolvere compiti in tempo reale.
