Si \u00e8 svolto<\/a><\/noindex> rilascio di un sistema operativo orientato al desktop MidnightBSD 1.2<\/a><\/noindex>, basato su FreeBSD con elementi portati da DragonFly BSD, OpenBSD e NetBSD. L'ambiente desktop di base si basa su GNUstep, ma gli utenti possono installare WindowMaker, GNOME, Xfce o Lumina. Per il download \u00e8 stato preparato<\/a><\/noindex> un'immagine di installazione di 663 MB (x86<\/a><\/noindex>, amd64<\/a><\/noindex>).<\/p>\n

A differenza di altre versioni desktop di FreeBSD, il sistema operativo MidnightBSD \u00e8 stato originariamente sviluppato come un fork di FreeBSD 6.1-beta, che nel 2011 \u00e8 stato sincronizzato con il codice sorgente di FreeBSD 7, e successivamente ha incorporato molte funzionalit\u00e0 di FreeBSD 9-STABLE e FreeBSD 10-STABLE. Per la gestione dei pacchetti, MidnightBSD utilizza il sistema mport, che sfrutta un database SQLite per memorizzare indici e metadati.
