Drew DeVault, autore dell'ambiente utente Sway<\/a><\/noindex> e del client email Aerc<\/a><\/noindex>, per divertimento ha provato a realizzare un'implementazione di Git, scritta in POSIX Shell. L'idea \u00e8 nata dopo una discussione sulla complessit\u00e0 della struttura interna di Git, dopo la quale Drew ha deciso di dimostrare le sue argomentazioni scrivendo in un giorno una versione funzionante di Git in puro Shell. Durante il lavoro, Drew si \u00e8 reso conto di aver sopravvalutato la semplicit\u00e0 a causa dell'uso nel Git di un formato binario per l'indice, che non si adatta completamente al Shell. Ma non si poteva tornare indietro e, con qualche acrobazia, \u00e8 riuscito a implementare Git in Shell. <\/p>\n

Il progetto \u00e8 stato chiamato shit<\/a><\/noindex> (Shell Git) e si propone esclusivamente come esperimento per studiare le internals di Git, non progettato per essere utilizzato nella pratica. Oltre alle costruzioni definite nel POSIX Shell, il codice utilizza alcune estensioni GNU funzionanti in BusyBox. \u00c8 inoltre necessaria la libreria zlib. Le funzionalit\u00e0 preparate sono sufficienti per effettuare un commit in un repository git.
