Nell'applicazione Timeshift<\/a><\/noindex> \u00e8 stata rilevata una vulnerabilit\u00e0<\/a><\/noindex> (CVE-2020-10174<\/a><\/noindex>), che consente a un utente locale di eseguire codice con diritti di root. Timeshift \u00e8 un sistema di backup che utilizza rsync con installazione di hard link o snapshot Btrfs per fornire funzionalit\u00e0 simili a System Restore in Windows e Time Machine in macOS. Il programma \u00e8 presente nei repository di molte distribuzioni ed \u00e8 utilizzato di default in PCLinuxOS e Linux Mint. La vulnerabilit\u00e0 \u00e8 stata risolta nella versione Timeshift 20.03<\/a><\/noindex>.<\/p>\n

Il problema \u00e8 causato da un'interazione scorretta con la directory pubblica \/tmp. Durante la creazione di un backup, il programma crea la directory \/tmp\/timeshift, all'interno della quale viene creato un sottoinsieme con un nome casuale, contenente uno script shell con comandi eseguiti con privilegi di root. Il sottoinsieme con lo script ha un nome imprevedibile, mentre \/tmp\/timeshift \u00e8 prevedibile e non viene verificato per sostituzioni o per la creazione di un link simbolico al suo posto. Un attaccante pu\u00f2 creare una directory \/tmp\/timeshift a proprio nome e quindi monitorare l'apparizione del sottoinsieme per sostituirlo e sostituire il file al suo interno. Durante l'esecuzione, Timeshift eseguir\u00e0 uno script non generato dal programma con privilegi di root, invece del file sostituito dall'attaccante.<\/p>\n
