I risultati sono stati deludenti e i chip DDR4 dei principali produttori sono ancora <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/download.vusec.net\/papers\/trrespass_sp20.pdf\">vulnerabili<\/a><\/noindex> (<noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/nvd.nist.gov\/vuln\/detail\/CVE-2020-10255\">CVE-2020-10255<\/a><\/noindex>). <\/p>\n<p>) La vulnerabilit\u00e0 RowHammer consente di alterare il contenuto di singoli bit di memoria attraverso la lettura ciclica dei dati da celle di memoria adiacenti. Poich\u00e9 la memoria DRAM \u00e8 un array bidimensionale di celle, ognuna delle quali \u00e8 composta da un condensatore e da un transistor, la lettura continua della stessa area di memoria provoca fluttuazioni di tensione e anomalie, che comportano una leggera perdita di carica nelle celle adiacenti. Se l'intensit\u00e0 della lettura \u00e8 sufficientemente elevata, una cella potrebbe perdere una quantit\u00e0 rilevante di carica e il successivo ciclo di rigenerazione non riuscir\u00e0 a ripristinarne lo stato originale, portando a una modifica del valore dei dati memorizzati nella cella. <\/p>\n<p>Per bloccare tale effetto, i moderni chip DDR4 utilizzano la tecnologia TRR (Target Row Refresh), progettata per prevenire la distorsione delle celle durante un attacco RowHammer. Il problema \u00e8 che non esiste un approccio unico per l'implementazione del TRR e ogni produttore di CPU e memoria lo interpreta a proprio modo, adotta le proprie varianti di protezione e non rivela i dettagli di implementazione.<br \/>\nLo studio dei metodi di blocco del RowHammer utilizzati dai produttori ha reso facile trovare vie per eludere la protezione. Durante i controlli, si \u00e8 scoperto che il principio praticato dai produttori \u00e8 stato &#171;<noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/ru.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/%D0%91%D0%B5%D0%B7%D0%BE%D0%BF%D0%B0%D1%81%D0%BD%D0%BE%D1%81%D1%82%D1%8C_%D1%87%D0%B5%D1%80%D0%B5%D0%B7_%D0%BD%D0%B5%D1%8F%D1%81%D0%BD%D0%BE%D1%81%D1%82%D1%8C\">sicurezza attraverso l'oscurit\u00e0<\/a><\/noindex> (security by obscurity) nell'implementazione del TRR aiuta solo per la protezione in casi specifici, coprendo attacchi tipici che manipolano la variazione di carica nelle celle in una o due righe adiacenti. <\/p>\n<p>L'utilit\u00e0 sviluppata dai ricercatori consente di verificare la vulnerabilit\u00e0 dei chip a varianti multiple dell'attacco RowHammer, in cui il tentativo di influenzare la carica viene effettuato su pi\u00f9 righe di celle di memoria contemporaneamente. Tali attacchi permettono di eludere la protezione TRR implementata da alcuni produttori e portano a distorsioni dei bit di memoria anche su hardware nuovo con memoria DDR4.<br \/>\nDei 42 moduli DIMM studiati, 13 moduli si sono rivelati vulnerabili a varianti non standard dell'attacco RowHammer, nonostante la protezione dichiarata. I moduli problematici sono stati prodotti da SK Hynix, Micron e Samsung, la cui produzione <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/271726\/global-market-share-held-by-dram-chip-vendors-since-2010\/\">copre<\/a><\/noindex> il 95% del mercato DRAM.<\/p>\n<p>Oltre alla DDR4, sono stati analizzati anche i chip LPDDR4 utilizzati nei dispositivi mobili, che si sono rivelati sensibili a varianti avanzate dell'attacco RowHammer. In particolare, la memoria utilizzata negli smartphone Google Pixel, Google Pixel 3, LG G7, OnePlus 7 e Samsung Galaxy S10 si \u00e8 rivelata vulnerabile.<\/p>\n<p>I ricercatori sono riusciti a riprodurre su chip DDR4 problematici diverse tecniche di sfruttamento. Ad esempio, l'uso dell'exploit RowHammer-<noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.blackhat.com\/docs\/us-15\/materials\/us-15-Seaborn-Exploiting-The-DRAM-Rowhammer-Bug-To-Gain-Kernel-Privileges.pdf\">exploit<\/a><\/noindex> per PTE (Page Table Entries) ha richiesto, per ottenere privilegi di sistema, un attacco che variava da 2,3 secondi a tre ore e quindici secondi, a seconda dei chip testati. <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usenix.org\/conference\/usenixsecurity16\/technical-sessions\/presentation\/razavi\">L'attacco<\/a><\/noindex> per danneggiare la chiave RSA-2048 memorizzata in memoria ha richiesto da 74,6 secondi a 39 minuti e 28 secondi. <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/arxiv.org\/abs\/1710.00551\">L'attacco<\/a><\/noindex> Per bypassare la verifica dei privilegi tramite la modifica della memoria del processo sudo ci sono voluti 54 minuti e 16 secondi.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c8 stata pubblicata un'utilit\u00e0 <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/vusec\/trrespass\">TRRespass<\/a><\/noindex>. Per effettuare con successo un attacco \u00e8 necessaria la conoscenza della mappatura degli indirizzi fisici utilizzati nel controller di memoria in relazione ai banchi e alle righe di celle di memoria. Per determinare la mappatura \u00e8 stata sviluppata un'utilit\u00e0 aggiuntiva <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/vusec\/trrespass\/tree\/master\/drama\">drama<\/a><\/noindex>, che richiede l'uso dei diritti di root. A breve sar\u00e0 anche <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/vu5ec\/status\/1237399112590467072\">\u00e8 previsto<\/a><\/noindex> pubblicata un'applicazione per testare la memoria degli smartphone.<\/p>\n<p>Azienda <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.intel.com\/technology\/2020\/03\/ipas-security-advisories-for-march-2020\/#gs.100xlmy\">Intel<\/a><\/noindex> e <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amd.com\/en\/corporate\/product-security\">AMD<\/a><\/noindex> Si \u00e8 consigliato di utilizzare memoria con correzione degli errori (ECC), controller di memoria con supporto Maximum Activate Count (MAC) e di applicare una frequenza di rigenerazione aumentata per la protezione. Tuttavia, i ricercatori ritengono che non esista una soluzione garantita per proteggere i chip gi\u00e0 rilasciati contro Rowhammer, e l'uso di ECC e l'aumento della frequenza di rigenerazione della memoria si sono rivelati inefficaci.
