Questa memoria registra le informazioni in una cella in modo simile alla registrazione su un disco rigido. Solo che in questo caso, ogni cella possiede la propria (condizionalmente) testina magnetica. La memoria STT-MRAM, che ha sostituito quella precedente, sfrutta l'effetto del trasferimento del momento di spin degli elettroni e funziona con ancora minori costi energetici, poich\u00e9 avviene utilizzando correnti pi\u00f9 basse nelle modalit\u00e0 di scrittura e lettura.<\/p>\n<p>Inizialmente, la memoria MRAM veniva prodotta su ordinazione da Everspin presso lo stabilimento NXP negli Stati Uniti. Nel 2014, Everspin ha firmato un contratto di collaborazione con GlobalFoundries. Insieme hanno iniziato a sviluppare i processi di produzione per MRAM discreta e integrata (STT-MRAM) utilizzando tecnologie pi\u00f9 avanzate.<\/p>\n<p>Nel tempo, presso le strutture di GlobalFoundries \u00e8 iniziata la produzione di chip STT-MRAM da 40 nm e 28 nm (completando la novit\u00e0 del chip STT-MRAM da 1 Gb), e sono stati preparati i processi tecnologici 22FDX per integrare le matrici di STT-MRAM nei controllori utilizzando processi a 22 nm su wafer FD-SOI.
