ttf-parser<\/a> — questa \u00e8 una libreria per l'analisi dei font TrueType\/OpenType.<\/noindex>
\nLa nuova versione offre un supporto completo per i font variabili
\n(font variabili<\/a>) e un'API C, per cui ho deciso di pubblicizzarla su Lore.<\/p>\n

Fino a poco tempo fa, se era necessario lavorare con i font TrueType, c'erano solo due opzioni: FreeType e stb_truetype. Il primo \u00e8 un enorme pacchetto, mentre il secondo supporta un numero piuttosto limitato di funzioni.<\/p>\n

ttf-parser si colloca da qualche parte nel mezzo. Supporta tutte le stesse tabelle TrueType (il formato TrueType \u00e8 composto da molte tabelle binarie separate) che FreeType, ma non si occupa del rendering dei glifi.<\/p>\n

Tuttavia, ttf-parser presenta molte altre differenze significative:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. ttf-parser \u00e8 scritto in Rust senza l'uso di unsafe. FreeType e stb_truetype sono scritti in C.<\/li>\n
  2. ttf-parser \u00e8 l'unica implementazione sicura (memory-safe). La lettura di memoria arbitraria \u00e8 impossibile. FreeType corregge costantemente le vulnerabilit\u00e0, mentre stb_truetype non \u00e8 pensato per la lettura di font arbitrari.<\/li>\n
  3. ttf-parser \u00e8 l'unica implementazione thread-safe. Tutti i metodi di parsing sono costanti. L'unica eccezione \u00e8 la definizione delle coordinate per i font variabili, ma questa funzione \u00e8 reentrante. FreeType \u00e8 fondamentalmente single-threaded. stb_truetype — reentrante (si possono utilizzare copie separate in thread diversi, ma non una delle molteplici).<\/li>\n
  4. ttf-parser \u00e8 l'unica implementazione che non utilizza allocazione nella \u00abheap\u00bb. Questo permette di accelerare l'analisi ed evitare problemi di OOM.<\/li>\n
  5. Inoltre, quasi tutte le operazioni aritmetiche e le conversioni di tipi numerici vengono verificate (inclusa la verifica statica).<\/li>\n
  6. Nel peggiore dei casi, la libreria pu\u00f2 lanciare un'eccezione. In tal caso, nell'API C le eccezioni saranno intercettate e la funzione restituir\u00e0 un errore, ma non fallir\u00e0.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    E nonostante tutte le garanzie di sicurezza, ttf-parser \u00e8 anche l'implementazione pi\u00f9 veloce. Ad esempio, il parsing di CFF2 \u00e8 3.5 volte pi\u00f9 veloce rispetto a FreeType. Nel frattempo, il parsing di glyf \u00e8 il 10% pi\u00f9 lento rispetto a stb_truetype, ma ci\u00f2 \u00e8 dovuto al fatto che non supporta i font variabili, la cui implementazione richiede di memorizzare informazioni aggiuntive.
