Il nuovo controllore si distingue per il trasferimento della contabilizzazione dello slab dal livello delle pagine di memoria al livello degli oggetti del kernel, consentendo cos\u00ec di condividere le pagine slab tra diversi cgroup, invece di riservare cache slab separate per ciascun cgroup. <\/p>\n<p>L'approccio proposto consente di migliorare l'efficienza dell'uso dello slab, riducendo del 30-45% la dimensione della memoria utilizzata per lo slab e riducendo significativamente il consumo totale di memoria da parte del kernel. Grazie alla diminuzione del numero di slab non migrabili, si osserva anche un effetto positivo nella riduzione della frammentazione della memoria. Il nuovo controllore di memoria semplifica notevolmente il codice per la contabilizzazione dello slab e non richiede l'uso di algoritmi complessi per la creazione e eliminazione dinamica delle cache slab per ciascun cgroup. Tutti i cgroup per la memoria nella nuova implementazione utilizzano un set condiviso di cache slab, e la durata delle cache slab non \u00e8 pi\u00f9 vincolata alla durata dei cgroup istanziati. <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.kernel.org\/doc\/Documentation\/cgroup-v1\/memory.txt\">limitazioni<\/a><\/noindex> sull'uso della memoria.<\/p>\n<p>Il nuovo controller slab, implementato con un conteggio delle risorse pi\u00f9 preciso, teoricamente dovrebbe sovraccaricare di pi\u00f9 la CPU, ma in pratica le differenze si sono rivelate insignificanti. In particolare, il nuovo controller slab \u00e8 gi\u00e0 utilizzato da alcuni mesi sui server di lavoro di Facebook, che gestiscono diversi tipi di carico, e non sono stati riscontrati regressi significativi. Si osserva invece una notevole riduzione del consumo di memoria \u2014 su alcuni host \u00e8 stato possibile risparmiare fino a 1 GB di memoria, ma questo valore dipende fortemente dal tipo di carico, dalla dimensione totale della RAM, dal numero di CPU e dalle caratteristiche del lavoro con la memoria. I test precedentemente effettuati <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/lwn.net\/Articles\/798605\/\">hanno mostrato<\/a><\/noindex> una riduzione del consumo di memoria di 650-700 MB (42%
