Durante l'audit sono state rilevate <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/research.nccgroup.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/NCC_Group_Zephyr_MCUboot_Research_Report_2020-05-26_v1.0.pdf\">25 vulnerabilit\u00e0<\/a><\/noindex> in Zephyr e 1 vulnerabilit\u00e0 in MCUboot. Lo sviluppo di Zephyr avviene con il contributo di aziende come Intel. <\/p>\n<p>In totale sono state identificate 6 vulnerabilit\u00e0 nel stack di rete, 4 nel kernel, 2 nella shell dei comandi, 5 nei gestori delle chiamate di sistema, 5 nel sottosistema USB e 3 nel meccanismo di aggiornamento del firmware. A due problemi \u00e8 stato assegnato un livello critico di pericolo, a due un alto, 9 sono moderati, 9 sono bassi e 4 richiedono attenzione. I problemi critici riguardano lo stack IPv4 e il parser MQTT, quelli pericolosi riguardano i driver USB mass storage e USB DFU. Al momento della divulgazione, le patch erano pronte solo per le 15 vulnerabilit\u00e0 pi\u00f9 critiche, mentre restano non risolti i problemi che portano a interruzioni del servizio o sono legati a carenze nei meccanismi di protezione aggiuntiva del kernel.<\/p>\n<p>Nello stack IPv4 della piattaforma \u00e8 stata scoperta una vulnerabilit\u00e0 remota che consente di danneggiare la memoria durante l'elaborazione di pacchetti ICMP modificati in un certo modo. Un altro grave problema \u00e8 stato trovato nel parser del protocollo MQTT, causato dall'assenza di un'adeguata verifica della lunghezza dei campi nell'intestazione e pu\u00f2 portare all'esecuzione remota di codice. Problemi meno gravi che causano un'interruzione del servizio sono stati trovati nello stack IPv6 e nell'implementazione del protocollo CoAP.<\/p>\n<p>Gli altri problemi possono essere sfruttati localmente per causare interruzioni del servizio o eseguire codice a livello di kernel. La maggior parte di queste vulnerabilit\u00e0 \u00e8 connessa all'assenza di controlli adeguati sugli argomenti delle chiamate di sistema, e pu\u00f2 portare a scritture e letture di aree di memoria arbitrarie del kernel. I problemi includono anche il codice di gestione delle chiamate di sistema - la chiamata con un numero di sistema negativo porta a un overflow intero. Nel kernel sono stati identificati problemi nella realizzazione della protezione ASLR (randomizzazione dello spazio degli indirizzi) e nel meccanismo di impostazione delle etichette canarie nello stack, rendendo inefficaci questi meccanismi. <\/p>\n<p>Molti problemi riguardano lo stack USB e singoli driver. Ad esempio, un problema nel driver USB mass storage consente di causare un overflow del buffer e di eseguire codice a livello di kernel quando un dispositivo \u00e8 collegato a un host USB controllato da un attaccante. Una vulnerabilit\u00e0 nel USB DFU, il driver per il caricamento di nuovi firmware tramite USB, consente di caricare un'immagine di firmware modificata nella Flash interna del microcontrollore senza l'uso di crittografia e bypassando la modalit\u00e0 di avvio sicuro con verifica dei componenti tramite firma digitale. \u00c8 stato anche esaminato il codice dell'bootloader aperto <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/juullabs-oss.github.io\/mcuboot\/\">MCUboot<\/a><\/noindex>, in cui \u00e8 stata trovata una vulnerabilit\u00e0 non critica che<br \/>\npu\u00f2 portare a un overflow del buffer durante l'uso del protocollo SMP (Simple Management Protocol) tramite UART.<\/p>\n<p>Ricordiamo che in Zephyr per tutti i processi \u00e8 fornito un solo spazio di indirizzo virtuale globale condiviso (SASOS, Single Address Space Operating System). Il codice specifico per le applicazioni \u00e8 combinato con un kernel adattato all'applicazione specifica e forma un file eseguibile monolitico da caricare e avviare su un hardware specifico. Tutte le risorse di sistema sono definite al momento della compilazione, riducendo la dimensione del codice e aumentando le prestazioni.
