L'ottimizzazione \u00e8 raggiunta tramite la chiamata anticipata dell'operazione di rilascio delle strutture di memoria secondarie, che non contengono informazioni uniche e possono essere ripristinate dinamicamente dopo il risveglio dalla modalit\u00e0 sospensione (ad esempio, aree <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/landley.net\/writing\/memory-faq.txt\">della memoria anonima<\/a><\/noindex> e vari cache delle pagine di memoria). L'idea principale \u00e8 che, dopo la rimozione dei dati superflui, si riduce la dimensione dell'immagine di memoria da salvare prima di passare alla modalit\u00e0 sospensione e, di conseguenza, si richiede meno tempo per la scrittura e la lettura da un supporto lento.<\/p>\n<p>Per impostazione predefinita, quando si salva un dump di memoria per la modalit\u00e0 sospensione, il kernel salva la memoria cos\u00ec com'\u00e8 con tutte le cache, ma \u00e8 prevista un'opzione standard per liberare strutture superflue simulando condizioni di mancanza di risorse nella fase iniziale della transizione in modalit\u00e0 sospensione. Questa possibilit\u00e0 pu\u00f2 essere attivata tramite il parametro \u00ab\/sys\/power\/image_size\u00bb e porta a una significativa riduzione del tempo di transizione in modalit\u00e0 sospensione. Canonical propone di aggiungere altri due parametri \u00ab\/sys\/power\/mm_reclaim\/run\u00bb e<br \/>\n\u00ab\/sys\/power\/mm_reclaim\/release\u00bb, che consentiranno di richiamare il rilascio anticipato delle strutture superflue affinch\u00e9 la transizione in modalit\u00e0 sospensione venga eseguita il pi\u00f9 rapidamente possibile, e il ritorno dalla modalit\u00e0 sospensione impieghi circa lo stesso tempo di quello previsto con l'impiego del parametro gi\u00e0 esistente nel kernel \u00ab\/sys\/power\/image_size\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>I test su un sistema con 8 GB di RAM e 8 GB di partizione di swap, utilizzando l'85% della memoria, hanno mostrato, nelle impostazioni predefinite (image_size=default), una riduzione del tempo di transizione in modalit\u00e0 sospensione da 51.56 a 4.19 secondi avviando il processo di pulizia della memoria superflua 60 secondi prima della transizione in modalit\u00e0 sospensione. Grazie alla riduzione della dimensione dell'immagine di memoria salvata, il tempo di ripristino \u00e8 diminuito da 26.34 a 5 secondi. Attivando la modalit\u00e0 standard di pulizia della memoria superflua nel sistema (image_size=0), il tempo di transizione in modalit\u00e0 sospensione \u00e8 stato ridotto da 73.22 a 5.36 secondi, mentre il tempo di ritorno dalla modalit\u00e0 sospensione \u00e8 praticamente invariato (\u00e8 diminuito solo di frazioni di secondo, da 5.32 a 5.26 secondi).<\/p>\n<p>Il metodo proposto pu\u00f2 essere utile in situazioni in cui \u00e8 necessario passare rapidamente alla modalit\u00e0 sospensione e si ha la possibilit\u00e0 di prevedere in anticipo la necessit\u00e0 di tale transizione. Ad esempio, nei sistemi cloud, gli ambienti virtuali a bassa priorit\u00e0 (<noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.aws.amazon.com\/AWSEC2\/latest\/UserGuide\/using-spot-instances.html\">ambienti spot<\/a><\/noindex> in Amazon EC2) possono essere tradotti dinamicamente in modalit\u00e0 sospensione e liberare la memoria occupata quando aumenta il consumo delle risorse da parte degli ambienti primari. Quando la carica sugli ambienti primari diminuisce, gli ambienti a bassa priorit\u00e0 tornano dalla modalit\u00e0 sospensione. In queste condizioni, per mantenere un adeguato livello di servizio, \u00e8 importante minimizzare il tempo di passaggio alla modalit\u00e0 sospensione e di uscita da essa.
