Questa \u00e8 la prima vulnerabilit\u00e0 del meccanismo di esecuzione speculativa delle istruzioni che consente la perdita di dati tra i singoli core CPU (in precedenza le perdite erano limitate a diversi thread di un singolo core). I ricercatori hanno dato alla questione il nome di CROSSTalk, ma nei <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/software.intel.com\/security-software-guidance\/insights\/deep-dive-special-register-buffer-data-sampling\">documenti Intel<\/a><\/noindex> la vulnerabilit\u00e0 \u00e8 menzionata come SRBDS (Special Register Buffer Data Sampling). <\/p>\n<p>La vulnerabilit\u00e0 rientra nell' <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.opennet.ru\/opennews\/art.shtml?num=50684\">classe di problemi MDS (Microarchitectural Data Sampling) presentata<\/a><\/noindex> un anno fa e si basa sull'applicazione di metodi di analisi tramite canali laterali ai dati nelle strutture microarchitetturali. <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/download.vusec.net\/papers\/crosstalk_sp21.pdf\">Principio di funzionamento<\/a><\/noindex> CROSSTalk \u00e8 simile alla vulnerabilit\u00e0 <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/mdsattacks.com\/\">RIDL<\/a><\/noindex>, ma si differenzia per la fonte della perdita.<br \/>\nLa nuova vulnerabilit\u00e0 manipola la perdita da un buffer intermedio precedentemente non documentato, che \u00e8 condiviso tra tutti i core CPU. <\/p>\n<p><center><noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vusec.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/staging_buffer_overview-768x514.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"CROSSTalk \u00e8 una vulnerabilit\u00e0 nei CPU Intel che porta alla perdita di dati tra i core.\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/424160c5d58d8cf2da9d4423fdcc8520.png\" style=\"display:block;margin: 0 auto;\" \/><\/a><\/noindex><\/center><\/p>\n<p><noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/software.intel.com\/security-software-guidance\/insights\/deep-dive-special-register-buffer-data-sampling\">Il cuore del problema<\/a><\/noindex> in quanto alcune istruzioni del microprocessore, comprese RDRAND, RDSEED e SGX EGETKEY, sono implementate utilizzando un'operazione microarchitetturale interna chiamata SRR (Special Register Reads). Su processori vulnerabili, i dati restituiti per SRR si accumulano in un buffer intermedio condiviso da tutti i core CPU, per poi essere trasferiti in un buffer di riempimento legato a un particolare core fisico CPU sul quale \u00e8 stata avviata l'operazione di lettura. Successivamente, dal buffer di riempimento, il valore viene copiato nei registri visibili alle applicazioni. <\/p>\n<p>La dimensione del buffer intermedio condiviso corrisponde alla linea di cache, che \u00e8 generalmente pi\u00f9 grande della dimensione dei dati letti e diverse operazioni di lettura coinvolgono diversi offset nel buffer. Poich\u00e9 il buffer condiviso viene copiato interamente nel buffer di riempimento, non viene spostata solo la porzione necessaria per l'operazione corrente, ma anche i dati residui dall'esecuzione di altre operazioni, incluse quelle eseguite su altri core CPU.<br \/>\n<center><noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vusec.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Screenshot-from-2020-06-09-11-10-52-1.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"CROSSTalk \u00e8 una vulnerabilit\u00e0 nei CPU Intel che porta alla perdita di dati tra i core.\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/f04d087a1db658abaf4811fcfce3b38c.png\" style=\"display:block;margin: 0 auto;\" \/><\/a><\/noindex><\/center><br \/>\n<center><noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vusec.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/instruction_profiling-1-1536x808.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"CROSSTalk \u00e8 una vulnerabilit\u00e0 nei CPU Intel che porta alla perdita di dati tra i core.\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/64900fa4e3f48bc58a90f66faaab0e86.png\" style=\"display:block;margin: 0 auto;\" \/><\/a><\/noindex><\/center><\/p>\n<p>In caso di organizzazione di un attacco riuscito, un utente locale autenticato nel sistema pu\u00f2 determinare i risultati delle istruzioni RDRAND, RDSEED e EGETKEY in un processo altrui o all'interno di un enclave Intel SGX, indipendentemente dal core CPU su cui viene eseguito il codice.<br \/>\nI ricercatori che hanno identificato il problema <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/vusec\/ridl\">hanno pubblicato<\/a><\/noindex> un prototipo di exploit, che dimostra la possibilit\u00e0 di fuga di informazioni sui valori casuali ottenuti tramite le istruzioni RDRAND e RDSEED, per ripristinare una chiave privata ECDSA, gestita in un enclave Intel SGX, dopo aver effettuato nel sistema un'unica operazione di firma digitale.<\/p>\n<p><center><br \/>\n<div class=\"youtube-placeholder\" data-id=\"7tba2ayE3cI\" onclick=\"loadVideo(this)\">\r\n        <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/img.youtube.com\/vi\/7tba2ayE3cI\/hqdefault.jpg\" alt=\"Riproduci video\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" style=\"width:100%;height:auto;\">\r\n        <div class=\"play-button\"><\/div>\r\n    <\/div><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Il problema <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/software.intel.com\/security-software-guidance\/processors-affected-transient-execution-attack-mitigation-product-cpu-model\">riguarda<\/a><\/noindex> un ampio ventaglio di processori Intel per desktop, mobile e server, inclusi Core i3, i5, i7, i9, m3, Celeron (serie J, G e N), Atom (serie C, E e X), Xeon (famiglie E3, E5, E7, W e D), Xeon Scalable, ecc. \u00c8 notevole che Intel sia stata avvisata della vulnerabilit\u00e0 nel settembre 2018 e che nel luglio 2019 sia stato fornito un prototipo di exploit, che dimostrava la fuga di dati tra i core CPU, ma lo sviluppo della patch \u00e8 slittato a causa della complessit\u00e0 della sua implementazione. Nell'aggiornamento del microcodice proposto oggi, il problema \u00e8 bloccato modificando il comportamento delle istruzioni RDRAND, RDSEED e EGETKEY per una sovrascrittura eccessiva dei dati nel buffer condiviso, per evitare l'accumulo di informazioni residue. Inoltre, \u00e8 stata applicata una sospensione dell'accesso al buffer fino al completamento delle operazioni di lettura e sovrascrittura del contenuto. <\/p>\n<p>L'effetto collaterale di tale protezione \u00e8 l'aumento dei ritardi nell'esecuzione di RDRAND, RDSEED e EGETKEY, e la riduzione della larghezza di banda nel tentativo di eseguire simultaneamente queste istruzioni su diversi processori logici. L'esecuzione di RDRAND, RDSEED e EGETKEY sospende inoltre l'accesso alla memoria da parte di altri processori logici. Queste caratteristiche possono influire negativamente sulle prestazioni di alcune applicazioni server, pertanto nel firmware \u00e8 previsto un meccanismo (RNGDS_MITG_DIS) per disabilitare la
