In the Firefox codebase, on which Firefox 80 will be based, scheduled for release on August 25, aggiunto<\/a><\/noindex> a change that disables binding<\/a><\/noindex> video hardware acceleration support to Wayland-based systems. Acceleration is provided through VA-API (Video Acceleration API) and FFmpegDataDecoder. Thus, video hardware acceleration support via VA-API will become available<\/a><\/noindex> for Linux systems using the X11 protocol. <\/p>\n

Previously, stable video hardware acceleration was only provided for the new backend using Wayland and the DMABUF mechanism. Acceleration was not applied for X11 due to issues with gfx drivers. Now, the issue of utilizing video acceleration for X11 has been resolved through l'uso<\/a><\/noindex> EGL. Additionally, for X11 systems, WebGL functionality via EGL has been implemented, which will eventually allow enabling WebGL hardware acceleration for X11.
\nCurrently, this feature remains disabled by default (enabled via widget.dmabuf-webgl.enabled), as not all issues have been resolved yet.<\/p>\n
