Come emulatore, QEMU consente di eseguire un programma compilato per una piattaforma hardware su un sistema con un'architettura completamente diversa, ad esempio eseguire un'applicazione per ARM su un PC compatibile x86. In modalit\u00e0 di virtualizzazione, le prestazioni di esecuzione del codice in un ambiente isolato sono vicine a quelle di un sistema nativo grazie all'esecuzione diretta delle istruzioni sulla CPU e all'utilizzo dell'iper-visore Xen o del modulo KVM. <\/p>\n<p>Il progetto \u00e8 stato originariamente creato da Fabrice Bellard con l'obiettivo di eseguire file eseguibili Linux compilati per piattaforme x86 su architetture diverse da x86. Nel corso degli anni, \u00e8 stata aggiunta la piena emulazione per 14 architetture hardware, con oltre 400 dispositivi emulati. Per la versione 5.1 sono state apportate oltre 2500 modifiche da 235 sviluppatori. <\/p>\n<p>Chiave <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/wiki.qemu.org\/ChangeLog\/5.1\">miglioramenti<\/a><\/noindex>, aggiunte in QEMU 5.1: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"l\"> \u00c8 stata aggiunta la supporto per l'emulazione della CPU basata sull'architettura <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/AVR_microcontrollers\">AVR<\/a><\/noindex>. \u00c8 stata implementata la supporto per le schede Arduino Duemilanove (ATmega168), Arduino Mega 2560 (ATmega2560),<br \/>\n   Arduino Mega (ATmega1280) e Arduino UNO (ATmega328P).<\/p>\n<li class=\"l\"> Nell'emulatore ARM \u00e8 stata aggiunta la possibilit\u00e0 di disconnettere la memoria a caldo (hot-unplug), cos\u00ec come il collegamento a caldo della memoria nvdimm per sistemi guest con ACPI. \u00c8 stata implementata la supporto per le estensioni ARMv8.2 <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/patchwork.kernel.org\/patch\/11466337\/\">TTS2UXN<\/a><\/noindex> e <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikichip.org\/wiki\/arm\/mte\">ARMv8.5 MemTag<\/a><\/noindex>. \u00c8 stata garantita la supporto per la scheda sonorapass-bmc.\n<li class=\"l\"> Nell'emulatore MIPS \u00e8 stata aggiunta la supporto per le CPU Loongson 3A (R1 e R4). Le prestazioni dell'emulazione delle istruzioni FPU e MSA sono state migliorate.\n<li class=\"l\"> Nell'emulatore RISC-V \u00e8 stata aggiunta la supporto per le CPU SiFive E34 e Ibex. \u00c8 stata implementata la supporto per le schede HiFive1 revB e OpenTitan. Per le macchine Spike, \u00e8 stata fornita la supporto per pi\u00f9 di una CPU.\n<li class=\"l\"> Nell'emulatore PowerPC \u00e8 stata introdotta la supporto per il ripristino degli errori nei sistemi guest tramite FWNMI.\n<li class=\"l\"> Per l'architettura s390 \u00e8 stata aggiunta la supporto KVM per la virtualizzazione sicura (modalit\u00e0 di esecuzione sicura).\n<li class=\"l\"> Nell'emulatore x86 sono state ridotte le spese generali per la virtualizzazione di sistemi guest non adattati con Windows, fornendo una tabella di dispositivi emulati ACPI WAET (Windows ACPI Emulated Device Table). \u00c8 stato migliorato il supporto per l'accelerazione <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/developer.apple.com\/documentation\/hypervisor\">HVF<\/a><\/noindex> per macOS.\n<li class=\"l\"> Nel driver dei dispositivi a blocchi \u00e8 stata aggiunta la supporto per dispositivi di archiviazione virtuale con blocchi logici e fisici di dimensione 2MB.\n<li class=\"l\"> \u00c8 stata aggiunta la possibilit\u00e0 di trasferire in QEMU password e chiavi per la crittografia tramite il keyring del kernel Linux utilizzando nuovi oggetti del tipo &#171;secret-keyring&#187;.\n<li class=\"l\"> Per il formato qcow2 \u00e8 stata implementata la supporto per l'algoritmo di compressione zstd.\n<li class=\"l\"> Nell'utilit\u00e0 qemu-img \u00e8 stato aggiunto un nuovo comando &#8216;bitmap&#8217; per manipolare le bitmap permanenti nei file qcow2. In qemu-img \u00e8 stato anche implementato il controllo delle chiavi LUKS (keyslot) e sono state proposte ulteriori funzionalit\u00e0 per i comandi &#171;map&#187; (&#8212;start-offset, &#8212;max-length) e &#171;convert&#187; (&#8212;bitmaps), mentre nel comando &#171;measure&#187; \u00e8 stata aggiunta l'uscita delle informazioni sulle dimensioni delle bitmap permanenti nei file qcow2.\n<li class=\"l\"> Nel driver NVMe \u00e8 stata aggiunta la supporto per le regioni di memoria persistente (Persistent Memory Region), introdotte nella specifica NVMe 1.4.\n<li class=\"l\"> Nel virtio per i sistemi guest con generatore di codice classico TCG (Tiny Code Generator) \u00e8 stata implementata la possibilit\u00e0 di utilizzare processi <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/wiki.qemu.org\/Features\/VirtioVhostUser\">vhost-user<\/a><\/noindex>, inclusi virtiofsd.
