Nel 1999, Star Division \u00e8 stata acquisita da Sun Microsystems, che ha compiuto uno dei passi pi\u00f9 significativi nella storia del software open source \u2014 ha reso StarOffice un progetto libero. L'iniziativa per lo sviluppo della suite per ufficio libera \u00e8 stata assunta dal progetto LibreOffice, fondato nel 2010 a causa dell'insoddisfazione per il rigido controllo dello sviluppo di OpenOffice.org da parte di Oracle, che ostacolava la partecipazione di aziende interessate.<\/p>\n<p>Gli sviluppatori di LibreOffice <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.documentfoundation.org\/blog\/2020\/10\/12\/open-letter-to-apache-openoffice\/\">hanno pubblicato<\/a><\/noindex> una lettera aperta che ha invitato gli sviluppatori di Apache OpenOffice a collaborare, poich\u00e9 Apache OpenOffice \u00e8 in profonda stagnazione da tempo, e tutto lo sviluppo degli ultimi anni \u00e8 concentrato in LibreOffice. Rispetto a OpenOffice, in LibreOffice <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.documentfoundation.org\/blog\/2020\/02\/19\/10-great-libreoffice-only-features\/\">sono emerse<\/a><\/noindex> sono disponibili funzionalit\u00e0 come l'esportazione nei formati OOXML (.docx, .xlsx) e EPUB, la certificazione dei documenti con firma digitale, notevoli ottimizzazioni delle prestazioni di Calc, un'interfaccia NotebookBar modernizzata, diagrammi pivot (Pivot Charts), filigrane e modalit\u00e0 sicura (Safe Mode).<\/p>\n<p>Nonostante la stagnazione e la mancanza di supporto effettivo, il marchio OpenOffice mantiene una posizione forte e il numero di download \u00e8 ancora <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.opennet.ru\/opennews\/art.shtml?num=51729\">nella misura di milioni<\/a><\/noindex>, e molti utenti non sono a conoscenza dell'esistenza di LibreOffice.
