Inizialmente gccrs \u00e8 stato sviluppato parallelamente al compilatore originale Rustc, ma a causa dell'assenza di specifiche per il linguaggio e dei frequenti cambiamenti incompatibili nelle prime fasi, lo sviluppo \u00e8 stato temporaneamente abbandonato e ripreso solo dopo il rilascio di Rust 1.0.<\/p>\n

Open Source Security giustifica la propria partecipazione con la possibile introduzione di codice Rust nel kernel Linux e dal fatto che il kernel viene compilato pi\u00f9 spesso con il compilatore gcc. Inoltre, i programmi scritti in diversi linguaggi possono presentare vulnerabilit\u00e0 proprio a causa di questo (vedi Exploiting Mixed Binaries<\/a>), che non si presenterebbero in programmi scritti in puro C o C++.<\/p>\n

Attualmente Open Source Security sponsorizza il lavoro di uno sviluppatore che lavorer\u00e0 su gccrs per tutto il prossimo anno, con la possibilit\u00e0 di fornire finanziamenti per aumentare il personale. Inoltre, partecipa al processo la societ\u00e0 britannica Embercosm, specializzata nello sviluppo di GCC e LLVM, che ha fornito il supporto per l'assunzione ufficiale degli sviluppatori per questa iniziativa.<\/p>\n
