Gli sviluppatori di Chrome hanno annunciato l'aggiunta a Chrome Canary, Dev e Beta di una nuova impostazione sperimentale «chrome:\/\/flags#omnibox-default-typed-navigations-to-https». Attivandola, quando si digitano i nomi host nella barra degli indirizzi, il sito verr\u00e0 aperto per impostazione predefinita utilizzando lo schema «https:\/\/» anzich\u00e9 «http:\/\/». Nella versione prevista per il 2 marzo, Chrome 89 attiver\u00e0 questa funzionalit\u00e0 per un piccolo numero di utenti, e se non ci saranno problemi imprevisti, l'uso di HTTPS come predefinito sar\u00e0 proposto a tutti nella versione Chrome 90. <\/p>\n

Ricordiamo che, nonostante i significativi sforzi per promuovere HTTPS nei browser, digitando un dominio nella barra degli indirizzi senza specificare il protocollo, continua a essere utilizzato per impostazione predefinita «http:\/\/». Per affrontare questo problema, in Firefox 83 \u00e8 stata implementata una modalit\u00e0 opzionale chiamata «Solo HTTPS», in cui tutte le richieste non crittografate vengono automaticamente reindirizzate alle versioni sicure delle pagine («http:\/\/» viene sostituito con «https:\/\/»). La sostituzione non \u00e8 limitata alla barra degli indirizzi e funziona anche per i siti aperti esplicitamente con «http:\/\/», oltre che durante il caricamento delle risorse all'interno della pagina. Se il reindirizzamento a https:\/\/ termina con un timeout, all'utente viene mostrata una pagina di errore che presenta un pulsante per effettuare la richiesta tramite «http:\/\/».
