Il progetto Proton, tramite il quale Valve sviluppa un'implementazione di Wine per far funzionare le applicazioni di gioco per Windows su Linux, ha quasi raggiunto il traguardo di 7000 giochi confermati con livello di supporto platinum. A titolo di confronto, un anno fa il numero di giochi con questo livello di supporto era di circa 5000. Il livello platinum implica che il gioco funziona perfettamente su Linux e non richiede ulteriori manovre per essere avviato. <\/p>\n

Il numero totale di giochi Windows funzionanti tramite Proton \u00e8 stimato in 13.7 mila, mentre ci sono 3.5 mila giochi che non sono ancora riusciti a partire. Di nuovi giochi in arrivo, meno del 20% non pu\u00f2 essere avviato con Proton. Ogni mese, il numero di giochi supportati aumenta di circa 100. Il 49.8% dei 13.7 mila giochi avviabili \u00e8 classificato al livello di supporto pi\u00f9 alto (platinum), ovvero questi giochi su Linux funzionano altrettanto bene come su Windows. <\/p>\n

La restante met\u00e0 si avvia, ma presenta vari problemi. Tra i problemi pi\u00f9 comuni ci sono: guasti nella riproduzione delle schermate video, impossibilit\u00e0 di gioco multiplayer a causa di incompatibilit\u00e0 con i sistemi anti-cheat, restrizioni legate a tecnologie di protezione dei diritti d'autore (DRM), problemi di performance e supporto insufficiente per DX12 in Proton. <\/p>\n

Alcuni giochi che presentano problemi di avvio con Proton possono essere avviati con successo nella versione sperimentale Proton Experimental, cos\u00ec come in una build supportata da appassionati indipendenti, Proton GE, che si distingue per una versione pi\u00f9 recente di Wine, patch aggiuntive e l'uso di FFmpeg. Inoltre, \u00e8 in fase di sviluppo un nuovo contenitore runtime per Linux \u2014 Soldier Linux (Steam Runtime 2).
