\u00c8 stata pubblicata la prima versione del progetto labwc, che sviluppa un server composito per Wayland con funzionalit\u00e0 simili a quelle del gestore di finestre Openbox (il progetto \u00e8 proposto come un tentativo di creare un'alternativa a Openbox per Wayland). Tra le caratteristiche di labwc ci sono il minimalismo, una realizzazione compatta, ampie possibilit\u00e0 di personalizzazione e alta prestazione. Il codice del progetto \u00e8 scritto in linguaggio C e distribuito sotto licenza GPLv2. <\/p>\n

Come base viene utilizzata la libreria wlroots, sviluppata dai programmatori dell'ambiente desktop Sway, che fornisce le funzioni di base per l'organizzazione del lavoro del gestore composito basato su Wayland. Per avviare le applicazioni X11 in un ambiente basato sul protocollo Wayland \u00e8 supportato l'uso del componente DDX XWayland. <\/p>\n

\u00c8 possibile collegare estensioni che implementano funzionalit\u00e0 come la creazione di screenshot, la visualizzazione di sfondi sul desktop, e la disposizione della barra e del menu. Ad esempio, sono disponibili tre opzioni di menu delle applicazioni: bemenu, fuzzel e wofi. Per la barra degli strumenti si pu\u00f2 utilizzare Waybar. Il tema, il menu principale e le scorciatoie da tastiera possono essere configurati tramite file di configurazione in formato xml. <\/p>\n

In futuro si prevede di supportare i file di configurazione di Openbox e i temi di Openbox, garantire il funzionamento su schermi HiDPI, attuare il supporto per i protocolli layer-shell, wlr-output-management e foreign-toplevel, integrare il supporto per i menu e aggiungere la possibilit\u00e0 di posizionare indicatori a schermo (osd) e interfacce di switch delle finestre in stile Alt+Tab.
