A seguito di GitHub e Bitbucket, le piattaforme di sviluppo collaborativo GitLab hanno annunciato la cessazione dell'uso per impostazione predefinita della parola \u00abmaster\u00bb per i rami principali in favore della parola \u00abmain\u00bb. Nel tempo, il termine \u00abmaster\u00bb \u00e8 stato considerato politicamente scorrettore, evocando schiavit\u00f9 e percepito da alcuni membri della comunit\u00e0 come un'offesa. <\/p>\n

La modifica sar\u00e0 effettuata sia nel servizio GitLab.com che dopo l'aggiornamento della piattaforma GitLab per uso locale. Il nuovo nome sar\u00e0 applicato nella creazione di nuovi progetti. Nella versione GitLab 13.11, prevista per il 22 aprile, sar\u00e0 presente un flag di sostituzione opzionale del nome del branch principale, ma di default nei nuovi progetti continuer\u00e0 ad essere utilizzato il nome master. Nella versione GitLab 14.0, che \u00e8 attesa per il 22 maggio, per tutti i progetti creati di default sar\u00e0 utilizzato il nome main. <\/p>\n

Nel caso di aggiornamento di sistemi gi\u00e0 esistenti a GitLab 14.0, nei nuovi progetti creati tramite l'interfaccia web, sar\u00e0 di default applicato anche il nome main. Se si utilizza un sistema di integrazione continua, potrebbe essere necessario apportare modifiche negli script e nelle impostazioni dei link hardcoded a master. Se desiderato, gli utenti potranno ripristinare il nome master tramite un'impostazione relativa al nome del branch di default.
