Nella versione Firefox 88, prevista per il 19 aprile, il supporto per FTP sar\u00e0 disabilitato di default (incluso il setting browserSettings.ftpProtocolEnabled che sar\u00e0 impostato in modalit\u00e0 sola lettura), e nella versione Firefox 90, programmata per il 29 giugno, il codice relativo all'FTP sar\u00e0 rimosso. Tentando di aprire collegamenti con l'identificatore di protocollo 'ftp:\/\/' il browser richiamer\u00e0 un'applicazione esterna, analogamente a come si fa con i gestori 'irc:\/\/' e 'tg:\/\/'.    <\/p>\n<p>Come motivazione per la cessazione del supporto FTP \u00e8 stata citata l'insicurezza di questo protocollo rispetto alla modifica e all'intercettazione del traffico transitante durante attacchi MITM. Secondo gli sviluppatori di Firefox, nelle condizioni attuali non ci sono motivi per utilizzare FTP invece di HTTPS per il download delle risorse. Inoltre, il codice di supporto FTP in Firefox \u00e8 molto obsoleto, crea problemi di manutenzione e ha una storia di rilevamento di un gran numero di vulnerabilit\u00e0 in passato.    <\/p>\n<p>Ricordiamo che in precedenza, nella versione Firefox 61, era gi\u00e0 stata vietata il download di risorse tramite FTP da pagine aperte in HTTP\/HTTPS, e in Firefox 70 era stata interrotta la visualizzazione del contenuto dei file scaricati tramite FTP (ad esempio, aprendo tramite FTP non venivano pi\u00f9 visualizzate immagini, file README e file HTML, ma veniva immediatamente mostrata la finestra di dialogo per il download del file su disco). In Chrome, il supporto per il protocollo FTP \u00e8 stato interrotto nella versione di gennaio Chrome 88.
