Windows Lite is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated products from Microsoft. However, it seems that users will need to be patient and wait a little longer. How , the work on supporting Win32 applications has not progressed as expected by the company. This will prevent Windows Lite from running classic versions of software, significantly limiting its applicability.

It should be noted that one of the problems is the launch of Microsoft Edge based on Chromium within the new OS. The original version of Edge, which was developed on the EdgeHTML engine, is deeply integrated into Windows Lite, so the question of replacement has now arisen. Therefore, the company has a lot of work ahead to ensure the browser functions properly, which implies the need to support Win32 applications.
Regarding new timelines, a source claims that Microsoft plans to start a new phase of internal testing by the end of this year. Thus, a public announcement should not be expected before 2020, as testing will take time. Currently, it is known that Windows Lite is being tested on Surface devices, including Surface Go and Surface Pro 6.
The OS itself will not be released as a standalone system. It is positioned as a Full Flash Update, meaning it will be pre-installed on devices by default. In particular, it may become the software foundation for a dual-screen laptop called Centaurus. Of course, this will happen if the project gets the 'green light'. The system will also compete with Chrome OS.
It should be noted that Windows Lite is expected to replace the unsuccessful Windows 10 S and, to some extent, Windows RT. Although Windows 10 is capable of running on ARM processors, such solutions are currently expensive and impractical. Perhaps the 'light' version will help expand the audience.
