In 2020, according to rumors, Microsoft will replace the classic Edge browser that comes with Windows 10 with a new one built on Chromium. And now, the software giant is one step closer to this: Microsoft has launched the public beta version of its new Edge browser. It is available for all supported platforms: Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10, as well as for Mac. The company clarified that the beta is still a preliminary software release, but it is already "ready for everyday use." You can download it from .

The company has improved the browser's performance over the past few months and added several features. For instance, this includes improvements in power consumption. Although initially this was only about Chrome, ultimately these features will appear in all Chromium-based browsers.
Edge also includes several features that are not available in the Google browser, including:
- The ability to convert text to speech, allowing users to read website content;
- Blocking tracking from resources;
- Customization options for new tabs;
- Microsoft Edge Insider extension store for extensions (Google Chrome Web Store is also supported);
- Compatibility mode with Internet Explorer 11.
According to the company, the beta version is the last step before the release, although it is not expected to be available very soon. The final build is expected to appear no earlier than the end of 2019 or the beginning of 2020. Beta versions will be updated every 6 weeks.
By the way, another new feature for Chrome and Edge browsers is the support for global media control buttons. This feature now works on all major sites and allows controlling playback across different sites simultaneously. To activate it, you need to update the browser to the latest Canary build, then go to edge://flags/#enable-media-session-service, enable the flag, and restart the program.
