In In the preliminary version of the Linux kernel 5.7-rc7, after a general review of the fixes, Linus Torvalds reported that the most significant improvement for him this week was the upgrade of his main workstation. For the first time in the last 15 years, his system is powered by a processor not from Intel. The new configuration features a CPU with 32 cores (64 threads) and a total embedded cache size of 146MB (2MB L1 + 16MB L2 + 128MB L3). In comparison, Intel workstation processors offer up to 18 CPU cores. It is noted that building in 'allmodconfig' mode on the new system is three times faster than on the previous system.
