Sam Hartman, project leader of Debian, is trying to resolve disagreements between the maintainers of the elogind packages (an interface for running GNOME 3 without systemd) and libsystemd, caused by conflicts between these packages and the recent refusal of the team responsible for preparing releases to include elogind in the testing branch, has opened up the possibility of supporting multiple init systems in the distribution.
If project participants vote for the diversification of init systems, all maintainers will be involved in collaborative efforts to address this issue, or special responsible developers will be appointed to work on it, and maintainers will no longer be able to ignore the alternative init system, remain silent, or prolong the process.
