De gebruikte ping-tool in OpenBSD is niet onderhevig aan het probleem dat bij FreeBSD is ontdekt (de kwetsbaarheid is aanwezig in de nieuwe implementatie van de functie pr_pack(), herschreven door de ontwikkelaars van FreeBSD in 2019), maar tijdens de controle kwam een andere fout aan het licht die gedurende 24 jaar niet opgemerkt was. De fout leidt tot een oneindige lus bij het verwerken van een antwoord met een nulgrootte van het optievak in het IP-pakket. De fix is al opgenomen in OpenBSD. Het probleem wordt niet als een kwetsbaarheid beschouwd, aangezien de netwerklagen in de OpenBSD-kernel dergelijke pakketten niet naar de gebruikersruimte doorlaten.<br \/>\n<br \/>Bron: <a
