Gedurende 25 jaar ontwikkeling van het project heeft curl ondersteuning voor vele netwerkprotocollen ge\u00efmplementeerd, zoals HTTP, Gopher, FTP, SMTP, IMAP, POP3, SMB en MQTT. De libcurl-bibliotheek wordt gebruikt door belangrijke projecten in de gemeenschap zoals Git en LibreOffice. De code van het project wordt verspreid onder de licentie <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/curl.se\/docs\/copyright.html\">Curl<\/a> (MIT-licentie).<\/p>\n<p><\/noindex><\/noindex> <\/p>\n<p>De release is opmerkelijk om twee redenen:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/curl\/curl\/commit\/65b563a96a226649ba12cb1ec7b5c4c538ec1c08\">toegevoegd<\/a> ondersteuning voor het protocol <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/ipfs.tech\/\">IPFS<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/curl\/curl\/commit\/fb4415d8aee6c1\">opgelost<\/a> gevaarlijk <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/curl.se\/docs\/CVE-2023-38545.html\">kwetsbaarheid<\/a> in de implementatie van het SOCKS5-protocol;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>  <noindex><\/p>\n<p>De kwetsbaarheid is specifiek <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/curl\/curl\/discussions\/12026\">opgemerkt<\/a> gemaakt door de ontwerper, Daniel Stenberg, als &laquo;een van de ernstigste kwetsbaarheden in curl sinds lange tijd&raquo;. De kwetsbaarheid wordt veroorzaakt door een fout in de logica van het tot stand brengen van verbindingen met SOCKS5-proxy's, waarmee een aanvaller de buffer kan overschrijden en willekeurige code aan de applicatiezijde kan uitvoeren.<\/p>\n<p><\/noindex> <noindex><\/p>\n<p>De fout werd ontdekt door Jay Satiro in het kader van het programma <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hackerone.com\/internet-bug-bounty\">The Internet Bug Bounty<\/a> hij ontving een vergoeding van $4660.<\/p>\n<p><\/noindex> <noindex><\/p>\n<p>Het moet worden opgemerkt dat Daniel een actieve rol speelt in zaken van beveiliging en <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/daniel.haxx.se\/blog\/2022\/02\/01\/curl-with-rust\/\">slechts met \u00e9\u00e9n thread werkt.<\/a> aan
