De release bevat wijzigingen in de taal zelf en in de standaardbibliotheek. Belangrijke wijzigingen omvatten het gebruik van een nieuwe <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.python.org\/3.13\/glossary.html#term-interactive\">interactieve interpreter<\/a> als standaard, experimentele ondersteuning voor uitvoering in <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.python.org\/3.13\/whatsnew\/3.13.html#whatsnew313-free-threaded-cpython\">free-threaded modus<\/a> (dit is met de global interpreter lock <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.python.org\/3.13\/glossary.html#term-global-interpreter-lock\">uitgeschakeld,<\/a>) (<a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/peps.python.org\/pep-0703\/\">PEP 703<\/a>), en <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.python.org\/3.13\/whatsnew\/3.13.html#whatsnew313-jit-compiler\">JIT-compiler<\/a> (<a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/peps.python.org\/pep-0744\/\">PEP 744<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><\/noindex><\/noindex>  <noindex><\/p>\n<p>Met deze release is de overgang naar een nieuwe releasecyclus van Python (Annual Release Cycle for Python, <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/peps.python.org\/pep-0602\/\">PEP 602<\/a>), in verband met de wens om de periode van &laquo;volledige ondersteuning&raquo; voor nieuwe releases uit te breiden:<\/p>\n<p><\/noindex> <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Python 3.9\u20133.12 hebben anderhalf jaar volledige ondersteuning, gevolgd door drie\u00ebnhalf jaar voor beveiligingsupdates.<\/li>\n<li>Python 3.13 en latere versies krijgen twee jaar volledige ondersteuning en drie jaar voor kwetsbaarheidsupdates.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p> <noindex><\/p>\n<p>Er wordt gewerkt aan de <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.python.org\/3.13\/whatsnew\/3.13.html#whatsnew313-improved-error-messages\">verbetering van foutmeldingen<\/a>. Nu worden traceback's standaard in kleur gemarkeerd. De ingebouwde functie locals() heeft nu <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.python.org\/3.13\/whatsnew\/3.13.html#whatsnew313-locals-semantics\">een specifieke semantiek<\/a> voor het wijzigen van de teruggegeven mapping (<a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/peps.python.org\/pep-0667\">PEP 667<\/a>), en type parameters (typing.TypeVar, typing.ParamSpec, typing.TypeVarTuple) ondersteunen standaardwaarden (<a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/peps.python.org\/pep-0696\/\">PEP 696<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><\/noindex> <noindex><\/p>\n<p>Wijzigingen in de standaardbibliotheek omvatten het verwijderen van verouderde API's en modules (aifc, audioop, cgi, cgitb, chunk, crypt, imghdr, mailcap, msilib, nis, nntplib, ossaudiodev, pipes, sndhdr, spwd, sunau, telnetlib, uu en xdrlib), evenals gebruiksvriendelijke verbeteringen en nauwkeurigheid.
