De GUI-bibliotheek Cosmoe is gepresenteerd, die werkt op Linux in omgevingen gebaseerd op Wayland. Cosmoe stelt gebruikers in staat om grafische toepassingen te cre\u00ebren in C++, door gebruik te maken van API's in de stijl van de classbibliotheek van het besturingssysteem BeOS. Cosmoe biedt een set C++-klassen die het snel en eenvoudig maken om gebruikersinterfaces te cre\u00ebren. Enerzijds is Cosmoe aanzienlijk eenvoudiger en compacter dan toolkit zoals GTK en Qt, maar anderzijds zorgt het ervoor dat de interfaces er moderner uitzien dan met lichtere opties zoals FLTK en Xforms. Op verouderde systemen zorgt Cosmoe voor een zeer laag energieverbruik, en op moderne systemen kan het maximale prestaties uit de hardware halen door actieve multiprocessing. Een collectie voorbeelden van applicaties die Cosmoe gebruiken voor het cre\u00ebren van interfaces is beschikbaar, waaronder een terminalemulator, een stijleneditor en eenvoudige spellen. <\/p>\n

De bibliotheek is gebaseerd als een lichtgewicht en niet-serverafhankelijke (app_server, registrar) tak van de codebase van het Cosmoe Classic-project, dat is aangepast om te werken bovenop composiet servers<\/a>, die het Wayland-protocol gebruiken. Het Cosmoe Classic-project was bezig met het porteren van de Haiku OS-omgeving om te werken op de Linux-kernel en maakte gebruik van het renderen van de interface in een venster dat is gemaakt met de SDL-bibliotheek. De ontwikkeling van Cosmoe Classic is vorig jaar herstart na een onderbreking van zeventien jaar. <\/p>\n

Momenteel is het project herori\u00ebnteerd van de ontwikkeling van een fork van het Haiku-besturingssysteem naar het cre\u00ebren van een aparte bibliotheek voor het ontwikkelen van grafische applicaties voor Linux. Op dit moment bevindt de ontwikkeling zich in de alfafase, terwijl de bibliotheek al ongeveer 95% van alle mogelijkheden van de BeOS API ondersteunt.
