Installatie-images zijn voorbereid voor de architecturen x86_64, ARM64, ppc64le en s390x in de vorm van een opstartbare (1 GB), minimale (2 GB) en volledige afbeelding (10 GB). Later zullen Live-builds worden gemaakt met GNOME, KDE, MATE en Xfce, evenals afbeeldingen voor Raspberry Pi-platforms, containers, WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux) en cloudplatforms.    <\/p>\n<p>De distributie is voor zover mogelijk binair compatibel met Red Hat Enterprise Linux en kan worden gebruikt als vervanging voor RHEL 9.7 en CentOS 9 Stream. De wijzigingen zijn voornamelijk gericht op rebranding, het verwijderen van RHEL-specifieke pakketten zoals redhat-*, insights-client, subscription-manager-migration*, kpatch*, kmod-redhat-*, rhc, spice* en virtio-win, en het uitbreiden van de hardware-ondersteuning. In het bijzonder is in AlmaLinux, vergeleken met RHEL, ondersteuning toegevoegd voor extra apparaat-id's zoals Compaq, LSI SAS 10xx\/2xxx, LSI MegaRAID SAS1078, HP NetRAID-4M, Adaptec 5400S, Dell PERC 2*\/3*, Dell PERC5, QLogic ISP, Emulex BladeEngine 2\/3, Emulex OneConnect, Themisto\/Callisto Jupiter-platform, IBM 8i, Adaptec Catch All, CERC SATA RAID, Legend, enz.          <\/p>\n<p>Bovendien is de Synergy-repository beschikbaar voor gebruik, waarin pakketten zijn opgenomen die afwijken van Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Momenteel zijn in de Synergy-repository al pakketten gepubliceerd met de gebruikersomgeving Pantheon, ontwikkeld door het Elementary OS-project, en het hulpmiddel Warpinator, bedoeld voor versleutelde bestandsuitwisseling tussen twee computers.       <\/p>\n<p>De AlmaLinux-distributie is opgericht door CloudLinux als reactie op de voortijdige be\u00ebindiging van de ondersteuning van CentOS 8 door Red Hat (de uitgave van updates voor CentOS 8 stopte eind 2021, niet in 2029 zoals gebruikers hadden verwacht). Het project wordt beheerd door de non-profitorganisatie AlmaLinux OS Foundation, die is opgericht om ontwikkeling te faciliteren op een neutraal platform met deelname van de gemeenschap en met een bestuursmodel dat lijkt op de organisatie van het Fedora-project. De distributie is gratis voor alle categorie\u00ebn gebruikers. Alle ontwikkelingen van AlmaLinux worden gepubliceerd onder vrije licenties.     <\/p>\n<p>Naast AlmaLinux worden ook Rocky Linux (ontwikkeld door de gemeenschap onder leiding van de oprichter van CentOS), Oracle Linux, SUSE Liberty Linux en EuroLinux gepositioneerd als alternatieven voor het klassieke CentOS. Bovendien heeft Red Hat de mogelijkheid geboden om RHEL gratis te gebruiken in organisaties die open source software ontwikkelen en in omgevingen van individuele ontwikkelaars, met maximaal 16
