De code is geschreven in C++ en <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/sorbet\/sorbet\/\">wordt verspreid<\/a><\/noindex> onder de Apache 2.0-licentie.<\/p>\n<p>Informatie over types in de code kan dynamisch worden berekend, maar ook worden vastgelegd in de vorm van eenvoudige <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/sorbet.org\/docs\/sigs\">annotaties<\/a><\/noindex>, die in de code kunnen worden opgegeven met de methode sig (bijvoorbeeld &#171;sig {params(x: Integer).returns(String)}&#187;) of in aparte bestanden met de extensie rbi kunnen worden geplaatst.  <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/sorbet.org\/docs\/overview\">Het is mogelijk<\/a><\/noindex> om zowel voorafgaand <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/sorbet.org\/docs\/static\">statische code-analyse<\/a><\/noindex> uit te voeren zonder de uitvoering ervan, alsook om verificatie tijdens uitvoering te doen (<noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/sorbet.org\/docs\/runtime\">wordt ingeschakeld<\/a><\/noindex> door toevoeging aan de code &#171;require &#8216;sorbet-runtime'&#187;). <\/p>\n<p>Er is een mogelijkheid <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/sorbet.org\/docs\/gradual\">voor een geleidelijke overgang<\/a><\/noindex> projecten voor het gebruik van Sorbet &#8212; in de code kunnen zowel type-geannoteerde blokken als niet-geannoteerde secties die niet door controle worden gedekt, worden gecombineerd. Opvallend zijn ook de zeer hoge prestaties en de mogelijkheid tot schaling voor codebases die miljoenen regels code bevatten. <\/p>\n<p>Het project omvat een kern voor statische typechecking,<br \/>\nhulpmiddelen voor het maken van nieuwe projecten met Sorbet, hulpmiddelen voor de gefaseerde overgang van bestaande projecten naar het gebruik van Sorbet, runtime met een domein-specifieke taal voor het schrijven van type-annotaties en <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/sorbet\/sorbet-typed\">repository<\/a><\/noindex> met kant-en-klare type-definities voor verschillende gems-pakketten op Ruby.<\/p>\n<p>Sorbet werd oorspronkelijk ontwikkeld voor de controle van interne projecten van het bedrijf Stripe, waarvan het merendeel van de betalings- en analysesystemen in Ruby is geschreven, en werd na anderhalf jaar ontwikkeling en implementatie open-source gemaakt. Voor de openstelling van de code werd een b\u00e8tatest uitgevoerd, waaraan meer dan 30 bedrijven deelnamen.
