We discuss the statistics of international IaaS providers, provide figures for our cloud, and talk about the reasons that have influenced the spread of open-source operating systems.<\/p>\n

Market share distribution<\/h2>\n

\nVolgens gegevens<\/a><\/noindex> According to IDC, in 2017, 68% of both in-house and cloud corporate servers were running Linux. Since then, this figure has increased \u2013 this trend is noted by many IaaS providers.<\/p>\n

In 2015, representatives of Microsoft stated<\/a><\/noindex>, that one in four instances in Azure's cloud runs on Linux. Two years later, their number reached<\/a><\/noindex> 40%. This year the number of Linux machines surpassed 50%<\/a><\/noindex>. The IT company itself has also become an active user of the open-source operating system. For example, software-defined networks (SDN) are built on its basis.<\/p>\n

A similar picture can be observed in the clouds of other IaaS providers. For instance, in the cloud 1cloud.ru, 44% of virtual machines run on Linux. For Windows, this figure stands at 45%.<\/p>\n

\"We expect that soon Linux may become the leader and surpass other operating systems,\" comments Sergey Belkin, head of the project development department 1cloud.ru<\/a><\/noindex>. \u2013 Considering that just a few years ago more than half<\/a><\/noindex> of the virtual machines deployed in our cloud were running on Windows.<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\nThe forecast is confirmed by statistics from other IaaS providers. For instance, in the private cloud of one of the largest Western providers, over 90% of instances run on Linux. At the same time, the open-source operating system remains the most popular platform for web hosting. According to<\/a><\/noindex>.<\/p>\n

the analytical agency W3Techs, 70% of the ten million most popular websites are hosted on Linux servers (according to gegevens<\/a><\/noindex> Alexa's ranking ). The remaining 30% belong to Windows.<\/a><\/noindex>Why Linux<\/p>\n

Experts identify at least two factors influencing the spread of the operating system in the cloud environment.<\/h2>\n

Linux is suitable for performing various tasks and operates on platforms of different scales: from mobile devices to supercomputers. Alleen al in 2017 was 3% van de wijzigingen in de codebase de ondersteuning voor etcd2<\/a><\/noindex> de verantwoordelijkheid van ontwikkelaars van Google en Samsung. Voor 13% van de wijzigingen zijn Intel verantwoordelijk.<\/p>\n

Grote IT-bedrijven zijn actief betrokken bij de ontwikkeling van zowel Linux zelf als open producten op basis daarvan. Microsoft biedt het platform Azure Sphere<\/a><\/noindex> voor IoT-toepassingen, dat is gebaseerd op de Linux-kernel. Intel heeft een cloudproject gelanceerd Clear Linux<\/a><\/noindex>, waarin ingenieurs het open-source OS optimaliseren voor gebruik op hun processors. HPE biedt ClearOS<\/a><\/noindex> voor levering met hun apparatuur. IBM heeft RedHat overgenomen en ontwikkelt nu een van de meest populaire distributies op de markt.<\/p>\n

Nieuwe open-source producten worden actief ge\u00efmplementeerd in cloudomgevingen, wat een positieve invloed heeft op de verspreiding van Linux.<\/p>\n

Hier was eigenlijk een praktische sectie gepland met demonstratie van drie projecten op STM32 en STM8, speciaal voor dit artikel gemaakt met behulp van datasheets, met lampen, SPI, timers, PWM en interrupts:<\/h2>\n

\nBij exacte cijfers over de populariteit van bepaalde besturingssystemen in de cloudomgeving moet men met enige scepsis benaderen. De moderne IT-infrastructuur van cloudproviders is complex. Veel hypervisors zijn 'genest', en er ontstaan situaties waarin het ene besturingssysteem draait in een omgeving van een ander.<\/p>\n

Maar zelfs met inachtneming van dit feit kan men met vertrouwen zeggen dat Linux steeds vaker wordt gebruikt in de cloud.<\/p>\n
