De ontwikkelingen van het project <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/ValveSoftware\/Proton\/\">worden verspreid<\/a><\/noindex> onder de BSD-licentie. Proton maakt het mogelijk om direct game-applicaties die alleen voor Windows zijn geleverd in de Linux-client van Steam uit te voeren. Het pakket bevat de implementatie van DirectX 9 (gebaseerd op <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/ValveSoftware\/Proton\/releases\/tag\/proton-4.11-1b\">D9VK<\/a><\/noindex>), DirectX 10\/11 (gebaseerd op <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.opennet.ru\/opennews\/art.shtml?num=50209\">DXVK<\/a><\/noindex>) en 12 (op basis van <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.opennet.ru\/opennews\/art.shtml?num=48648\">vkd3d<\/a><\/noindex>), die werken via de vertaling van DirectX-aanroepen naar de Vulkan API, biedt verbeterde ondersteuning voor gamecontrollers en de mogelijkheid om de fullscreen-modus te gebruiken ongeacht de in games ondersteunde schermresoluties.<\/p>\n<p>In de nieuwe versie:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"l\"> Voor games is directe toegang tot gamecontrollers zonder een emulator-laag toegevoegd, wat de kwaliteit van de interactie met verschillende gamecontrollers aanzienlijk heeft verbeterd.\n<li class=\"l\"> De D9VK-laag (een implementatie van Direct3D 9 boven de Vulkan API) is bijgewerkt naar versie <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/Joshua-Ashton\/d9vk\/releases\/tag\/0.20\">0.20<\/a><\/noindex>, die ondersteuning biedt voor de d3d9.samplerAnisotropy, d3d9.maxAvailableMemory, d3d9.floatEmulation, GetRasterStatus, ProcessVertices, TexBem, TexM3x2Tex en TexM3x3Tex opties en functies.\n<li class=\"l\">  Er zijn problemen met crashes en freezes opgelost bij het gebruik van de fsync-patches.\n<li class=\"l\"> De instelling &#171;WINEFSYNC_SPINCOUNT&#187; is toegevoegd, wat nuttig kan zijn voor het verbeteren van de prestaties van sommige spellen.\n<li class=\"l\"> Ondersteuning voor de laatste versies van SDK Steamworks en OpenVR is toegevoegd.\n<li class=\"l\"> De ondersteuning voor zeer oude games met virtual reality-ondersteuning is verbeterd.\n<li class=\"l\"> Crashes die zich voordeden bij het invoeren van tekst in sommige games op basis van de Unreal Engine 4, zoals Mordhau en Deep Rock Galactic, zijn opgelost.\n<\/ul>\n<p>Daarnaast is er een nieuwe <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.libretro.com\/index.php\/retroarch-1-7-8-ai-service-how-to-set-it-up\/\">lancering <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.retroarch.com\/\">RetroArch 1.7.8<\/a><\/noindex>, plugin voor<br \/>\nemulatie van verschillende gameconsoles, waarmee klassieke games kunnen worden gespeeld via een eenvoudige, gestandaardiseerde grafische interface. Emulators voor consoles zoals Atari 2600\/7800\/Jaguar\/Lynx, Game Boy, Mega Drive, NES, Nintendo 64\/DS, PCEngine, PSP, Sega 32X\/CD, SuperNES, enz. worden ondersteund. Controllers van bestaande gameconsoles, waaronder Playstation 3, Dualshock 3, 8bitdo, XBox 1 en XBox360, kunnen gebruikt worden. Ook is er een afbeeldingsvervangingsmodus toegevoegd, die ook tekst detecteert en vertaalt, maar probeert de oorspronkelijke tekst op het scherm door de vertaling te vervangen. Deze modi kunnen nuttig zijn voor het spelen van Japanse games die geen Engelse versies hebben.
