Alexander Larsson, ontwikkelaar van Flatpak en actieve deelnemer aan de GNOME-gemeenschap, gepubliceerd<\/a><\/noindex> de tweede editie van het project Gthree<\/a><\/noindex>, dat de 3D-bibliotheek port three.js<\/a><\/noindex> voor GObject en GTK, dat in de praktijk kan worden gebruikt om 3D-effecten aan GNOME-toepassingen toe te voegen. De Gthree API is praktisch identiek aan three.js, met onder andere een loader voor glTF<\/a><\/noindex> (GL Transmission Format) en de mogelijkheid om materialen op basis van PBR (Physically Based Rendering) in modellen te gebruiken. Voor rendering wordt alleen OpenGL ondersteund.<\/p>\n

In de nieuwe versie is ondersteuning toegevoegd voor de Raycaster<\/a><\/noindex> met de implementatie van de gelijknamige renderingmethode<\/a><\/noindex>, die kan worden gebruikt om te bepalen op welke objecten in de 3D-ruimte de muis zich bevindt (bijvoorbeeld om 3D-objecten uit de sc\u00e8ne met de muis vast te leggen). Daarnaast is er een nieuw type puntverlichting toegevoegd (GthreeSpotLight) en is er ondersteuning voor schaduwkaarten opgezet, waarmee objecten die zich voor de lichtbron bevinden, schaduwen op het doelobject kunnen werpen.<\/p>\n
