Deze wijziging zal worden toegepast voor de architecturen x86, ppc64el en s390 en zal de opstarttijd verkorten dankzij snellere gegevensuitpakking.  <\/p>\n<p>Voordat het besluit werd genomen, is er <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/kernel.ubuntu.com\/~cking\/boot-speed-eoan-5.3\/kernel-compression-method.txt\">een test uitgevoerd<\/a><\/noindex> van de opstarttijden van de kernel met de algoritmen BZIP2, GZIP, LZ4, LZMA, LZMO en XZ. BZIP2, LZMA en XZ werden onmiddellijk afgewezen vanwege de langzame uitpakking. Van de overgebleven opties had GZIP de kleinste beeldgrootte, maar LZ4 pakte gegevens zeven keer sneller uit dan GZIP, met een 25% groter bestand.
