De release is tegelijkertijd voorbereid voor de takken PyPy2.7 en PyPy3.6, die ondersteuning bieden voor de syntaxis van Python 2.7 en Python 3.6. De release is beschikbaar voor Linux (x86, x86_64, PPC64, s390x, Aarch64, ARMv6 of ARMv7 met VFPv3), macOS (x86_64), OpenBSD, FreeBSD en Windows (x86). <\/p>\n<p>Een kenmerk van PyPy is het gebruik van de JIT-compiler, die on-the-fly enkele elementen naar machinecode transcribeert, wat zorgt voor <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/speed.pypy.org\/\">hoog<\/a><\/noindex> Prestatieniveau \u2014 bij bepaalde bewerkingen overtreft PyPy de klassieke implementatie van Python in C (CPython) verschillende keren. De prijs voor hoge prestaties en het gebruik van JIT-compilatie is een hoger geheugenverbruik \u2014 het totale geheugengebruik in complexe en langdurig draaiende processen (bijvoorbeeld bij de vertaling van PyPy door PyPy zelf) overschrijdt dat van CPython met vijftig tot honderd procent. <\/p>\n<p>De nieuwe release is opmerkelijk vanwege de stabilisatie van de ondersteuning voor Python 3.6, die eerder de status van b\u00e8taversie had, en de implementatie van JIT voor de Aarch64-architectuur (ARM64). Er is ook een nieuwe JSON-decoder toegevoegd, die aanzienlijk sneller is, minder geheugen verbruikt en geoptimaliseerd is voor JIT. De CFFI-module 1.13 (C Foreign Function Interface) is bijgewerkt met een implementatie van de interface voor het aanroepen van functies geschreven in C en C++. CFFI wordt aanbevolen voor interactie met C-code, terwijl cppyy voor C++-code is. In de tak PyPy2.7 is de _ssl-module op basis van CFFI gebackporteerd.
