Het is in overweging <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/patchwork.kernel.org\/cover\/11332295\/\">aanvraag<\/a><\/noindex> voor opname van deze module in de hoofdversie van de Linux-kernel. USB Raw Gadget is al <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/google\/syzkaller\/blob\/master\/docs\/linux\/external_fuzzing_usb.md\">toegepast<\/a><\/noindex> bij Google om het fuzzing-testen van de USB-stack van de kernel te vereenvoudigen met behulp van tools <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/google\/syzkaller\">syzkaller<\/a><\/noindex>.<\/p>\n<p>De module voegt een nieuwe programmeerinterface toe aan de USB Gadget subsystemen  <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.linux-usb.org\/gadget\/\">en ontwikkelt zich als alternatief voor GadgetFS. De creatie van een nieuwe API is het gevolg van de noodzaak om laagdrempelige en directe toegang te krijgen tot het USB Gadget subsysteem vanuit de gebruikersruimte, waardoor alle mogelijke USB-verzoeken kunnen worden verwerkt (GadgetFS verwerkt sommige verzoeken zelf en geeft deze niet door aan de gebruikersruimte). De bediening van de USB Raw Gadget gebeurt via het apparaat \/dev\/raw-gadget, vergelijkbaar met \/dev\/gadget in GadgetFS, maar voor interactie wordt een interface op basis van ioctl() gebruikt in plaats van een pseudo-systeem.<\/a><\/noindex> Behalve de rechtstreekse verwerking van alle USB-verzoeken door een proces in de gebruikersruimte, onderscheidt de nieuwe interface zich ook door de mogelijkheid om willekeurige gegevens terug te geven als antwoord op een USB-verzoek (GadgetFS voert een validatie uit van USB-descriptors en filtert bepaalde antwoorden, wat het opsporen van fouten bij fuzzing-testen van de USB-stack belemmert). Raw Gadget biedt ook de mogelijkheid om een specifiek UDC (USB Device Controller) en driver voor aansluiting te kiezen, terwijl GadgetFS is aangesloten op de eerste beschikbare UDC.
