Deze instelling biedt ontwikkelaars van ingebedde browsers voor mobiele apparaten die de GeckoView-engine gebruiken de mogelijkheid om standaard de toegang tot about:config uit te schakelen en gebruikers de mogelijkheid te geven deze weer te gebruiken.<\/p>\n<p>De mogelijkheid om de toegang tot about:config uit te schakelen <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/mozilla.github.io\/geckoview\/javadoc\/mozilla-central\/org\/mozilla\/geckoview\/doc-files\/CHANGELOG\">toegevoegd<\/a><\/noindex> is opgenomen in de codebasis van Firefox 71, die gepland staat voor release op 3 december. Er wordt gekeken naar <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/mozilla-mobile\/fenix\/issues\/5529\">uit te schakelen<\/a><\/noindex> de standaardinstelling van about:config in sommige varianten van de mobiele browser Fenix (Firefox Preview), die de ontwikkeling van Firefox voor Android voortzet. Desondanks is de instelling aboutConfigEnabled bedoeld voor het beheer van de toegang tot about:config in Fenix  <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/bugzilla.mozilla.org\/show_bug.cgi?id=1540065#c17\">toegevoegd<\/a><\/noindex> , zodat about:config indien nodig kan worden hersteld.<\/p>\n<p>De reden voor de wens om de toegang tot about:config te beperken, is een situatie waarbij in Fennec (de oude Firefox voor Android) onzorgvuldig wijzigen van about:config de browser gemakkelijk in een niet-functionele staat kan brengen. Volgens de initiatiefnemer van de wijziging moeten gebruikers geen toegang krijgen tot onveilige methoden voor het aanpassen van de instellingen van de Gecko-engine. Als opties werd ook voorgesteld om gevaarlijke instellingen te blokkeren door een whitelist van wijzigbare parameters in te voeren of een nieuwe sectie 'about:features' toe te voegen voor het beheren
