De ontwikkeling van builds voor 32-bits x86-systemen zal worden stopgezet. De release wordt verwacht in juli of eind juni. Ondersteunde desktops zijn onder andere Cinnamon, MATE en Xfce.<\/p>\n<p>Laten we niet vergeten dat Canonical al met Ubuntu 18.04 is gestopt met het maken van 32-bits installaties, en in Ubuntu 20.04  <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.opennet.ru\/opennews\/art.shtml?num=50896\">volledig te stoppen met het bouwen van pakketten voor de i386-architectuur (ook af te zien van het bouwen van multiarch bibliotheken die nodig zijn om 32-bits applicaties in een 64-bits omgeving uit te voeren), maar<\/a><\/noindex> volledig is gestopt met het maken van pakketten voor de i386-architectuur (waaronder het opgeven van het maken van multiarch-bibliotheken die nodig zijn voor het uitvoeren van 32-bits applicaties in een 64-bits omgeving), maar daarna <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.opennet.ru\/opennews\/art.shtml?num=50950\">hun beslissing na het bestuderen van opmerkingen die zijn gemaakt door<\/a><\/noindex> haar besluit heeft herzien en het maken en leveren van <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.opennet.ru\/opennews\/art.shtml?num=51946\">van een speciale set<\/a><\/noindex> 32-bits pakketten met bibliotheken die nodig zijn voor het blijven functioneren van verouderde programma\u2019s, die alleen in 32-bits beschikbaar zijn of 32-bits bibliotheken vereisen. <\/p>\n<p>Als reden voor het stopzetten van de ondersteuning voor de i386-architectuur wordt genoemd dat het onmogelijk is om pakketten op hetzelfde niveau te onderhouden als andere ondersteunde architecturen in Ubuntu, bijvoorbeeld vanwege de afwezigheid van de recentste ontwikkelingen op het gebied van beveiliging en bescherming tegen fundamentele kwetsbaarheden zoals Spectre voor 32-bits systemen. Het onderhouden van de pakketbasis voor i386 vereist veel middelen voor ontwikkeling en kwaliteitscontrole, die zich niet verantwoorden door de geringe gebruikersbasis (het aantal i386-systemen wordt
