Standaard maakt GhostBSD gebruik van het OpenRC-initiatiesysteem en het ZFS-bestandssysteem. Zowel live-werken als installatie op een harde schijf worden ondersteund (met de eigen ginstall-installateur, geschreven in Python). De Update Station-app is aangepast om updates alleen via pkg uit te voeren. De weergave van het pictogram voor het aangeven van beschikbare updates is verbeterd.
