Vandaag heeft Google de ondersteuning voor W3C WebAuth aangekondigd voor Google-accounts op Apple-apparaten die draaien op iOS 13.3 en hoger. Dit vergemakkelijkt het gebruik van de Google-hardwarebeveiligingssleutels op iOS en maakt het mogelijk om meer soorten beveiligingssleutels voor Google-accounts te gebruiken.<\/p>\n

Dankzij deze innovatie hebben iOS-gebruikers de mogelijkheid om de Google Titan Security Key met NFC te gebruiken voor toegang tot hun persoonlijke account. USB-sleutels, zoals de YubiKey 5Ci, kunnen ook worden gebruikt met iOS-apparaten, maar hiervoor is een speciale Apple Lightning naar USB Camera-adapter nodig. Sleutels met een Type-C-aansluiting kunnen rechtstreeks worden aangesloten op iOS-apparaten met een geschikte poort, zoals de iPad Pro.<\/p>\n

Volgens Google biedt het gebruik van een Security Key een veel betrouwbaardere bescherming voor de toegang tot het account dan tweefactorauthenticatie, omdat toegang tot het account alleen kan worden verkregen met een fysieke sleutel en niet met een eenvoudige digitale code die door ervaren hackers kan worden gekraakt.<\/p>\n
