De grafische interface van Pidgin is geschreven met de GTK+-bibliotheek en ondersteunt functies zoals een enkele adreslijst, gelijktijdig werken in meerdere netwerken, een tabbladinterface, het werken met avatars en integratie met het meldingsgebied van Windows, GNOME en KDE. Ondersteuning voor het aansluiten van plugins maakt het eenvoudig om de functionaliteit van Pidgin uit te breiden, en de implementatie van basisprotocolondersteuning in een aparte bibliotheek libpurple biedt de mogelijkheid om op basis van Pidgin-technologie\u00ebn eigen implementaties te maken (bijvoorbeeld Adium voor macOS).<\/p>\n<p>Deze release zal de laatste zijn in de 2.X.0-tak, en alle ontwikkelaarsinspanningen zullen worden gericht op <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/developer.pidgin.im\/wiki\/Roadmap3.0.0\">Pidgin 3.0<\/a><\/noindex>. Onder <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/keep.imfreedom.org\/pidgin\/pidgin\/file\/release-2.x.y\/ChangeLog\">wijzigingen<\/a><\/noindex> zijn in deze versie opmerkelijk de ondersteuning voor XMPP Stream Management (XEP-0198), het verhelpen van geheugenlekken in zoekresultaten, de ondersteuning voor Server Name Indication (SNI) in GnuTLS, talrijke verbeteringen in videoconferenties, en ondersteuning voor het delen van schermen via XDP Portal bij gebruik van Wayland.
