This primarily concerns browsing history and geolocation. Providers are also prohibited from advertising services unrelated to communications and using data that does not qualify as personal data by definition.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the law in Maine revived several net neutrality rules that were in effect in the country until 2018 \u2014 until they were <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/habr.com\/ru\/company\/vasexperts\/blog\/477236\/\">overturned by the FCC<\/a><\/noindex>. In particular, it <noindex><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.eff.org\/deeplinks\/2020\/05\/eff-court-broadband-privacy-law-passes-first-amendment-muster\">prohibited<\/a><\/noindex> internet providers from offering discounts on their services and other forms of compensation in exchange for a customer's consent to provide personal information.<\/p>\n<h2>Why only providers?<\/h2>\n<p>\nThe law in Maine does not regulate the activities of telecommunications or IT companies. This situation did not sit well with internet providers, so this July they turned to the courts.
